Worldwide Date and Time Locales Added to DX NetOps 22.2.6 Portal: Enables users to specify the format of date (and time) displays in the UI to support worldwide locales
One of the biggest requests from Non-American DX NetOps Portal users has been the need to see all dates in your local date format to avoid date/time confusion for your users. Today, there are several different formats used to display dates in the product (e.g., "September 27, 2022 2:21 PM Daylight Savings Time", "Sep 27, 2022 14:21 DST"). Further there are some non-localized dates displayed e.g., "9/6/2022" (is it September 6 or June 9?). In addition to uniformity of display, we understand you want to be able to pick the date format used in your displays to be a local date format that matches your user’s expectations. For example, in an alarm view, a German user wants to see the alarm date/time as "27.9.2022 14:21 CET".
With the DX NetOps 22.2.6 release, we added a user preference that lets you pick a locale (e.g., German, Germany) which defines the words and patterns used for the formatting of date/times. We also enable a user to pick a "size" as well namely "SHORT", "MEDIUM", "LONG", "FULL". All date/times throughout the UI will use this date/time format EXCEPT for some cases in charting where space is paramount, e.g., on X-Axes, where the localized SHORT format will be used.
When developing this capability we incorporated the following requirements:
- There is a user preference that lets you pick a date formatting locale and date size AND that user preference picker shows a sample of what you will see. The default is MEDIUM, language the user has currently selected (so MEDIUM fr-FR for instance). The locale picker is very easy to understand. For example, it will not require you to pick fr-FR, rather you pick French (as used in France).
- All displays of date/time in the UI show locale you have selected.
- One exception is charts. The labeling of the X-axis will use the localized short format (adapted to have a NEWLINE before the year).
- The user preference for 12/24 hour clock displays is actually honored everywhere.
Here is how it works:
