View now supports Feature Registration Service (FRS)

Hello View Customers!

I'm pleased to announce that View now supports the Feature Registration Service.

CA Common Services for z/OS utilizes IBM's Function Registry for z/OS to track product features and functions. It provides information on feature availability, enablement, usage, and usage count.

EBC PTF LU14029 implements an infrastructure change to support Feature Registration Service for View, and PTF LU14028 applies the necessary changes for View. If View is not installed, the EBC PTF will only install the infrastructure change.

Benefits to the customer:

• Visibility and Insight:

  • Feature Availability: Customers can see which features are available within their View installation, helping them understand the full capabilities of the product.
  • Enablement Tracking: It shows which features are enabled, allowing administrators to ensure that necessary features are activated to meet their business needs.

• Usage Metrics:

  • Usage Count: This provides quantitative data on how frequently each feature is used. Customers can identify the most and least utilized features, which can guide training efforts and optimization of workflows.
  • Usage Trends: Tracking usage over time helps customers spot trends, such as increasing reliance on certain features, which can inform capacity planning and performance tuning.

• Optimization and Efficiency:

  • Resource Allocation: By understanding which features are used the most, customers can allocate resources more effectively, ensuring critical features have the necessary support and infrastructure.
  • Feature Utilization: Insight into feature utilization helps in identifying underused features that might offer significant benefits if leveraged properly, leading to more efficient use of the product.
