    Summary:

Content updates for SEP cease when the product version enters End-of-Service (EOS).

    Details:

Broadcom is clarifying its policy on content update support for End-of-Service (EOS) Symantec Endpoint Protection  (SEP) versions.

Content updates contain information like virus definitions and behavioral rules. It is Broadcom's policy that content update distribution is discontinued for versions of SEP that are EOS.

There are two main reasons for this policy:

    1. We want to incentivize customers to move to the latest version of our product. The latest versions have enhancements and vulnerability fixes that all customers need.

    2. Ensuring that new functionality delivered via content updates works in older, unsupported versions of the product takes significant testing which is unavailable.

In rare cases and with significant justification, we will make an exception to the policy and allow a specific customer to continue getting content updates for a limited time. However, use of new content on EOS agents is to be used at the customers own risk. Broadcom assumes no responsibility if new content causes issues on an unsupported product.
