    #ProductAnnouncements

    Hello Everyone,

We are very excited to pre-announce new functionality coming to "Feature Preview"***!

Have you ever been frustrated when attempting to copy an ID from one of your favorite screens and find yourself having to access the editor menu for each item?  With the new Quick ID Copy feature you can right-click on any ID on any screen and get the copy menu without the extra hassle of navigating the editor.

Look for this exciting new functionality in the "Feature Preview"*** window within the next week!

Thank you very much for your continued support,
    -Rally Product Management

*** For those not familiar with what I mean when I say "Feature Preview", it's an area in Rally where you can opt-in to cutting-edge features that we're testing out before adopting them fully.  You can find it as an option in your user menu:

    Hi Nate,

    This is exciting news.

    1. Would you know when the feature preview is scheduled to begin?

    2. Would you know how long the preview will run for? We are keen to know when this will go live.

Any insights you have would be highly appreciated.

    Kind regards,

    Ndubi

    Hello Ndubi,

The goal is to have this arrive in "Feature Preview" by the end of the
week, but in relation to other things going on internally, it's not a high
priority which could mean it slips into next week. The preview will run
for at least a month before we decide whether or not to go full GA with
    it.

    Thanks,
    -Rally Product Management

Just to clarify, this only works on Formatted IDs that are already hyperlinks in certain places in Rally.  For example, if you right-click on a user story number in the text of your requirements, you just get the browser's right-click menu.  Similarly, if you use Rally's "open copy-link menu" to copy/paste a Formatted ID into a text field in Rally and then right-click on it, you will just get the browser's right-click menu.   Even if you right-click on the work ID number at the top of the item (the one in bold next to the title), you get the browser's right-click menu.  However, if you right click on the hyperlink formatted ID in the feature or parent fields, you will get this new pop-up option.

I entirely get that the Rally team did not intend to hijack the browser's right-click function.  It's just that description of what this new function really does was not spelled out fully enough to convey it's limitations. I was quite looking forward to this new feature but within a few minutes of playing with it, realize that it's application is more limited than I expected.

The old browser extension, RallyMailer, which is now deprecated in the Chrome store did this so much better. It was a toolbar accessible item that allowed the copying of the formatted ID + title. In addition, it would allow you to copy in a single action a grid of items if you check-box selected multiple items from a list.  I know Rally already has the copy link menu inside an individual item but they never addressed the need to copy/paste a list of items.
