  • 1.  Production Target Environment of Linux/Java/MS SQL

I am interested to know of any Gen customers whose production target environment is Linux, Java and MS SQL.  I am in the process of evaluating the merits of a re-platform to such a target and want to know if there is any real-world experience of it and any associated do's/don'ts.  If there is then some indication of application size and criticality to the business would be helpful.

    Kev,

I am not sure on your premise re target to Linux.. If you are building Java releasing to JVM then it does not matter if your Application server is windows or linux, as you are running the JVM on the application server.

We currently target the build to JVM/MSSQL and deploy to both windows and linux

Cheers Mike.  The desired target is for server/batch to be deployed to is JVM on Linux with MS/SQL DBMS.  There are questions about ongoing Broadcom support and also performance for what are very large/complex business applications.  How large/complex are the Gen applications running on Linux targeting MS/SQL?  Is it an issue for you that MS/SQL is not a supported DBMS on Linux?  Also, are there any performance implications related to Gen generating cursor-based SQL or the fact that connection to the DBMS is via JDBC?

You say you also deploy to JVM on a Windows platform also.  Again, is performance with MS/SQL an issue?
