How to fetch VM's hostname instead of guest name for VMs through VMware Probe

Hi community,

We are monitoring VMware environment with VMware probe but we are facing an issue that VMware probe is collecting guest names instead of hostname so can any one suggest what could be the issue and how I can achieve to get hostnames instead of guest names for VMs through VMware probe. Please suggest!

I had followed as you suggested still there not able to see VM hostnames.

Is it necessary to install VMware tools on the VMs or deploy cdm probe to VMs?

Please suggest!

Hi Eshwar,

You need to install VMWare tools to get the hostname otherwise it will fallback to VM name.

Also please note changing vmname to hostname also changes Source attribute for qos generated by probe.
