Just a quick note: the UIM windows installer, when executed on server 2019, appears to fail silently if there are any pending "restart windows" updates.

Not installing isn't unexpected in this situation but the silent termination leaves one wondering where it went.

Otherwise the install seems to go smoothly.

We are investigating this issue internally and it appears to be related to NAS Replication.

For now as Luc mentioned, NAS 23.4.2 resolves the issue as a workaround.

Here is a link for NAS 23.4.2 if anyone needs it-

    Hi Jason,

The link to nas-23.4.2 doesn't work. Where can I find it?

This is the link from the archive page for the current nas probe-

    https://support.nimsoft.com/download.aspx?ReleaseId=5323&state=GA

Looks like after the upgrade of the web site, the ability to see older probe versions on the archive is gone.

You could try walking backwards that 5323 release id - there haven't been many probe releases since 23.4.2 so you'd probably find it pretty quick.

    Thank you Garin and Joakim!

Apologies for the confusion.  The change to the URLs is related to the recent changes for authentication on the archive site and we are working to find and update links to older probes.

The attached update nas 23.4.3.1 will resolve this issue. This has been tested in a lab running DX UIM 23.4 CU3.

    Steps to deploy the update:

    1. Download the nas hotfixed version 23.4.3.1
    2. Select the Archive icon in IM and rt-click to Import it into your local archive on the Primary hub
    3. Deploy it to the Primary hub or Secondary if you have nas running on a Secondary hub
    4. Using Raw configure, set the loglevel to 3 for each nas instance
    5. Under nas setup, add a logsize key and set it to 5000
    6. Deactivate the nas
    7. Remove the .db files from the nas probe directory
    8. Activate the nas
    9. While holding down the SHIFT key, double-click the nas probe
    10. The nas should open successfully and run without errors/issues

Thank you for posting this here.

    I have a couple questions:

Regarding step 7, Remove the .db files from the nas probe directory - is this actually necessary? I am asking because obviously the database.db file has the status of all alerts and related triggers/profiles and the transactionlog.db has the history of each alert. Deleting these two files will eliminate all history of the triggering of profiles and so will cause them all to be created new and retriggered. It also creates a huge issue around closing open alerts if you are forwarding those alerts to some other system - like service now for instance. For me that represents identifying a way to manually manage the duplication of 3,500 alerts which will be a huge mess considering that the old alerts are owned and the new alerts will represent a duplication of effort with potentially deleterious effects.

In step 9, While holding down the SHIFT key, double-click the nas probe, what does this achieve? I recall it from the distant past but don't remember the effect.

And in a nas replication environment, what is the required order of applying this update? i.e., is it ok to leave the other nas instances at 23.4.2 while running this new one do all instances need to be the same version or is it OK to mix?

    Hi Garin,

    >>>Understood. The reason I mentioned that step was due to another iteration of the nas 23.4.3 failing for another customer. I included it but when I tested it, I did not remove my *.db files. I would consider this optional if the rest of the steps are sufficient to fix the nas 23.4.3 based on the final behaviour, such as responsiveness, no replication alarms, ability to start the nas, open the GUI, and a clean log output.

In step 9, While holding down the SHIFT key, double-click the nas probe, what does this achieve? I recall it from the distant past but don't remember the effect.

    >>>Holding down the SHIFT key and double-clicking forces a new fetch of the nas configuration. I included that since at first my nas session was a bit slow, was syncing somewhat slowly, and eventually opened within 30 seconds or so, but afterward it was noticeably improved.

And in a nas replication environment, what is the required order of applying this update? i.e., is it ok to leave the other nas instances at 23.4.2 while running this new one do all instances need to be the same version or is it OK to mix?

    >>>I'm not sure since I didn't test that combination, but as long as there are no instances of the original 23.4.3, it should work as expected. That said, best practice is to run the same nas version.

I just recently upgraded one of my labs to test and update the HA failover and HA guide which includes replication, so if I run into any issues with nas 23.4.3.1 I'll update this thread.

I was checking the UIM hotfix index and noticed there is yet another nas version released; 23.4.3.2. What is the difference compared to 23.4.3.1?

Are there release notes for nas 23.4.3.2?

The https://support.nimsoft.com/ archive only has the GA 23.4.3 listed.

And on the CU3 page, there's the link to the new version of nas but no information about how it's different from 23.4.3.1 or 23.4.3.

    Hi Garin,

Fixes for the following errors are part of this release:

    1. nas: ndbTableInsert error: error, 'table NAS_EVENTS has no column named externalId'

    2. Can not start nas, start after probe not enabled ()

    3. Auto-adjusted replication blocksize down to 1, this could indicate a slow transfer rate to '<hub_example>'.
    Best Regards,
    Steve

    Hi Garin, Sam, et al,

    nas 23.4.3.2 has 3 fixes.

    1. NAS probe crashes when replication is enabled
    2. nas: ndbTableInsert error: error, 'table NAS_EVENTS has no column named externalId' when deleting the .db files.
    3.
Can not start nas, start after probe not enabled ()

Auto-adjusted replication blocksize down to 1, this could indicate a slow transfer rate to '<hub_example>'.

I've asked Engineering to further clarify and add/update the release notes at support.nimsoft.com.
Update as of 3/3/2025: I'm not 100% sure if the nas crash when replication is enabled and inability to start nas is 100% fixed yet because in my HA Failover testing, I've seen issues #1 and #3 above, occur although infrequently.
    Best Regards,
    Steve
