Downgrade experience

We find ourselves in a scenario we must downgrade a lower environment.  

What are the pitfalls on an environment that has been through a downgrade is what I would like to learn.  Has anyone had to downgrade an environment?

You can downgrade clarity application, if you have an application and database backup.
