Subject: CA 1 Flexible Storage GA announcement: Virtual Storage Adapter (VSA) - PTF# LU17088, LU17049
Eardis,
Does this new enhancement require a specific version of CA1 and VTAPE? What are the requirements to apply these PTF's?
Also, can the VSA enhancement, still utilize the Cloud adapter? In other words, z/OS > VSA (Linux file system) > VCA (S3).

Subject: CA 1 Flexible Storage GA announcement: Virtual Storage Adapter (VSA) - PTF# LU17088, LU17049
Hello CA 1 Flexible Storage Community members,
As part of our Enable strategy, the CA 1 Flexible Storage team is pleased to announce the general availability of an enhancement for the introduction of the Virtual Storage Adapter (VSA) with the new PTF (VTAPE - LU17088 / CA 1 - LU17049)
Feature Overview
The Virtual Storage Adapter (VSA) is a CA 1 Flexible Storage solution that allows for Mainframe data to be stored in a Linux file system. The Virtual Storage Adapter (VSA) enhancement to Vtape provides a distributed client/server configuration for running a Vtape Plex. Using VSA, the Vtape subsystem emulates Virtual Tape Devices on zOS that use TCPIP connections to a Linux-based VSA Server that reads or writes Virtual Volumes as standard Linux files. This eliminates the need for Vtape 3390 DASD used as cache space and the externalization or recalling Virtual Volumes on physical tapes or the USS file systems.
Key Benefit
With this enhancement, CA 1 Flexible Storage Virtual Storage Adapter (VSA) can provide following benefits:
z/OS CPU mostly used on ZIIP;
z/OS DASD cache is not necessary;
standard TCP/IP provides flexibility in choosing Linux platform
