1. Meeting called to order by Kellie of DFCU @ 15:01 eastern; encouraged feedback requests from those on the call be sent to organizers via email; email addresses provided

3. Guest speakers given open forum to discuss relevant AM issues

 

4. Dan Shannon: Talked about the AM roadmap, in March delivered the AM v9.3 release to address new Java requirements; Indicated Oracle changed Java licensing to begin to monetize further releases after a specific date(04-16-2019); If paying for Java licensing from Oracle, AM v9.3 will support;   Broadcom also opened v9.3 to support the OracleJDK(…non-licensed based Java); JDK is the open-sourced version of Java; AM v9.3 supports OracleJDK 11.0.2 and continue to support higher release versions; Another area of compatibility with v9.3 that was addressed was support for Oracle 18c; also removed the license checking of the AM product so not to worry anymore about keyfile.ini admin; Java 11 dropped some functionality AM was previously utilizing to include "Java Web Start"(JWS); JWS would download Java and the application as necessary; under AM v9.3 have to retrieve the ClientRun.jar file and run locally from workstation; no date set yet but will start working on v9.4 to likely be available later this year; focus on trying to keep AM relevant to appease the customer base and keep it viable for the foreseeable future; not many enhancement requests coming in from AM community so they feel it is meeting general customer requirements; Audience noted cannot use Win2016 server w/AM v9.3 because it will not allow you to KILL jobs from GUI; Broadcom unaware of issue but noted and will get fixed; AWE999 Internal error message addressed; recommended sending debug logs to CA/Broadcom support

 

5. Alex Givens: recognized as the architect whom wrote most of the integration between AM and DNA; mentioned has number of AM v9.3 clients in various stages of upgrading AM; has v9.3 running successfully against Java 8u191, Java 8u201, and some with OpenJDK 11.0.2; all mentioned versions are the "free" versions of Java; any Java update released on/after 04-16-2019 will be fee-based licensing except for the JavaJDK open source code version(s); has not noted any affects w/DNA using v9.3 at any sites; Explained that AscendoSoft offers consulting services centered around DNA/AM along product offerings that service the two platforms

 

6. Ray Dooley: indicated Broadcom's focus more on products vs services so all former professional services outsourced; HCL is the "preferred" service provider for any Broadcom software; indicated no plans from Broadcom to offer any type AM conference as provided previously by Automic/CA

 

7. AM community site will be changed over to Broadcom on 06-06-2019; all "existing" account holders should migrate over seamlessly; add notification(s) to your login profile will ensure you receive email(s) when updates available

 

8. Question from CU about upgrading agent servers posed to group; response was to create one "functional" server then clone it out as needed

 

9. Some clients experienced Oracle Version when installing v9.3; no release notes about this noted; compatibility matrix for v9.3 indicated it only supports Oracle 12 & 18; usually occurs where the Oracle client on Master still Oracle 11 client but the database is probably Oracle 12; more prevalent issue where AM database does not reside on the same server as Master

 

 

10. Issue of GUI not color change not working in v9.3; AM community ticket now open; Broadcom researching now

4. Mark Romeo: Worked with product under the AppWorx product name; been involved with AM product about 25 years now; indicated Application Manager now being rebranded back to AppWorx to leverage the name recognition in the general marketplace

 

5. Stephen Petterson: stephen.petterson@Broadcom.com will direct any clients to find out whom their prospective assigned account manager may be presently in lieu of staffing changes within Broadcom; no clarity provided by Broadcomm on whom will definitively replace prior Senior Account Manager, David Schitter

 

6. Dan Shannon: indicated only "known" issue with Windows server 2016 is the cancellation issue[KILL] where it cancels the jobs but not the underlying process; was not able to provide an ETA for the group but indicated Broadcomm still researching; client on call requested Dan escalate the issue since it has been known and he indicated he would address the responsible team again; indicated Application Manager is largest product base his team supports; Dan reiterated Broadcomm still committed to AM product; indicated AM product roadmap primarily about keeping product technically current and maintianing platform currency; Broadcomm still taking AM enhancement requests but no immediate plans for significant enhancements; currently AM is only Broadcomm product "certified" to run DNA batch; conclusion: keep product running as long as possible so client institutions continue to have a viable DNA scheduling solution

 

7. Jim Holck: worked with AM product while under the company name of AppWorx; AscensodoSoft provides software and consulting services to the DNA/AppWorx marketplace; currently have about 60 DNA sites as active AscendoSoft clients; assist with AppWorx support and further customization via their consulting services; been inundated last few months with lot of AM 9.3 upgrades; developed line of software that compliments many administration and implementation of AppWorx; please reach out to AscendoSoft.com site for further questions or inquiries of interest; site will be changed over to Broadcomm on 06-06-2019; all "existing" account holders should migrate over seamlessly; add notification(s) to your login profile will ensure you receive email(s) when updates available

 

8. Polled listeners regarding feedback about their experience(s) with new Broadcomm support site for Automic Community; reiterated support site does provide requested email updates pending on notification settings in user profile

 

9. Participant had issue with window agents not running a specific DNA job after upgrading them from Windows 2008 R2; Dwight from Fiserv indicated can't KILL jobs with windows 2016 which was confirmed by another client; participant encouraged to pose question on Broadcomm community ; conclusion: Windows 2016 is supported but has this "known" issue of not allowing user to fully KILL a job

 

 

10. Participant wanted to know if new DNA sites being offered AppWorx as part of the integration and all agreed this was true; Fiserv still authorized to license AppWorx with purchase of DNA

 

11. Issue of GUI not color change not working in v9.3; Broadcomm researching now; multiple tickets still open on this issue and Dan indicated he would follow up on this item as well

6.  Dan Shannon: introduced himself as Senior Product Line Manager at Broadcom so AppWorx is included in his portfolio of products; again stressed Broadcom commitment to keep AppWorx viable as well as supporting clients; indicated development working on AppWorx 9.4.0 which include support for Oracle 19C; continued stress on platform support of current OS and databases product uses and enhancement surrounding business objects; indicated continued support for Banner 9 also; mentioned AppWorx community portal is available to make suggestions but not many requests have been made by client institutions; also mentioned there was a possible "hot fix" on the community portal regarding the "KILL" menu item which does not stop the process selected from processing on the database but just deletes job from the AppWorx GUI; Fix was confirmed on the portal as 9.3.1 but no one had tested in their client environment at the time of the call; Broadcom roadmap for AppWorx geared around keeping product technically current; will follow up with development team about getting fix included in upcoming 9.4 release for 2020[…no ETA provided] for changing the AM client interface color scheme for multiple environments; several clients on call reiterated need for that change

 

7. Jim Holck: mentioned AscnedoSoft email monitoring offering which allows AppWorx users to set up an email account in Outlook that can monitor and then set up event that will allow to run job from their phone or allow end users to interact with AM product.

 

7. Mark Romeo: introduced himself as being associated with the AppWorx product for over 20 years now and worked with Alex Givens and Jim Holck of AscendoSoft when the company name was same as the product; mentioned he provided many client demos for DNA clients using AppWorx;

 

8. Polled listeners regarding questions posed on the AppWorx community portal to gauge how responsive issues are being addressed; notifications on the Broadcom site can customized based on one's preference(s); no responses

 

9. Opened call up for questions regarding any other technical issues with AppWorx that had not been mentioned yet; one response regarding the Broadcom RA FTP agent regarding resizing it in the process flow; Broadcom had not heard about issue previously; Mark Romeo indicated he would "tweak" RA FTP agent to see if issue can be duplicated

 

 

10. Another issue brought up was an upgrade of the batch server to Windows 2016 OS and found no AM standard SFTP_JAVA job was working; support from Broadcom was deemed slower than expected; additionally, Broadcom not supporting these "canned" SFTP_JAVA jobs but migrating clients to the preferable RA FTP

 

11. Another question regarding AppWorx support regarding why some DNA client institutions have to go through Fiserv versus directly opening a ticket with Broadcom support; institutions that bought product "directly" from AppWorx/UC4/Automic can open direct tickets while those whom purchase AM from Fiserv must go through Fiserv then they are first line of support

Meeting opened with acknowledgement about the multiple calendar invites received for user group call due to an issue with Outlook; additionally email addresses have been removed from the 177 users provided facilitator originally; anyone wishing to be added/removed should contact facilitator[…kellie.brown@dfcufinancial.com]accordingly; also indicated minutes are "only" posted on the Broadcom Automic community portal.

 

4. Dan Shannon: introduced himself as a Product Manager at Broadcom and that another product manager would be taking over, Frederick[Fred] Caloone-Thuillier; Dan made newly assigned product manager aware of the AM/DNA user group calk and will provide transitional assistance as necessary; Fred primarily been working with another distributed scheduling product called "Dollar Universe" but is "somewhat" familiar with AppWorx; Dan will send a confirmation email to facilitators with new product manager contact info. One area of focus now is the integration with Banner9 for the 9.4 release; typical certification and platform support still primary focus for AppWorx as usual; enterprise product called; he believes but will confirm before or at next client call; Dan also mention Broadcom still looking at how to re-enable ability to change AppWorx GUI color; color change ability was lost with the changes to the JRE by ORACLE dropping the web start support that was a feature that was part of that; changes made by Oracle in JRE were relatively transparent but losing the color change was one of the so-called casualties; Dan also confirm there is a KILL fix available in 9.3.1 release.

 

 

5. Mark Romeo: introduced himself as being associated with the AppWorx product for over 20 years now and worked with Alex Givens and Jim Holck of AscendoSoft when the company named the same as the product; he did many of technical presentations on the presale side of the AppWorx product; Mark also mentioned Broadcom finally renewed their partnership with Fiserv since the acquisition of CA Technology Associates; possibly adding some Fiserv resources to this user group call in coming months.

 

 

6. Jim Holck: indicated AscnedoSoft heavily involved still in assisting with AM upgrades and other customization requests; requested any other client sites who might need assistance with AppWorx can contact himself or Alex Givens .

 

 

7. DFCU engineer brought on to discuss issues encountered in updating remote windows agent server(s) from Windows Server 20082008 to Windows Server 2016; DFCU kept seeing " SMBv3 invalid signature errors" after the server upgraded usually when doing a copy from one shared drive on SVR16 to another shared drive on SVR16; appears the use of SMB 3.0 is problem that is minimized by turning off signing; one CU acknowledged same issue and resolved using dir command

 

8. Opened call up for questions regarding any other technical issues with AppWorx that had not been mentioned yet; one question was rather any plans in AppWorx road map to switch from Java to HTML 5; that is moving from a "thick client" to a "thin client"; another caller followed about a request to offer a mobile AppWox client and Dan indicated no request(s) had been mentioned yet about that which would provide an accessible UI w/o having a laptop; another caller indicated to the group that a newer version of PS_FILELOADER.SQT was available from Fiserv that seemed to resolve some condition which was causing it to hang previously but not sure which DNA release it was in.

Rich D. : Rich is the Fiserv liaison between the AppWorx DNA integration and the Broadcom provider of the software;  works in their data center and indicated most of their client institutions are currently on v9.3.5_HF1; indicated their testing of v9.4.1 revealed no real benefit to their client institutions but will provide their test findings as time allows.

3.  9.3X Version Alert:  All attending client institutions encouraged to upgrade to some version of 9.4X as soon as time allows since the version is no longer supported. Most client institutions seemed to be on the supported 9.4X series.

4.  MM_STMXT Issue:   Client institution having issue running MM_STMXT in AppWorx but job runs w/o issue in CORE. The client institution mentioned that job appears to be looking for a four-character cycle code but eleven were passed.  None of the participants on the call were able to assist with the issue in this setting so Fiserv will have to review the problem.

5. V 9.5 Release Now Available:   Broadcom did mention that the 9.5.0 release of AppWorx was now available on their download site[…https://downloads.automic.com/downloads/advanced_mode]. The latest version has a number of fixes that client institutions were encouraged to review.  No attending client institutions has tried/test this latest release, yet.  It was also stated that the new release has not likely been approved by Fiserv yet, so institutions were encouraged to verify beforehand.

6. Batch Server OS:  Windows server 2012 was mentioned as being used on batch servers but was recommended upgrading since that operating system is no longer supported by Microsoft. Possible supported upgrade options provided were Windows Server 2016, Windows Server 2019, and Windows Server 2022. Several attending client institutions verified using these OS on their batch servers and w/o issue.

7. Meeting agenda discussed:  Facilitator queried attendees about sharing a pre-determined demo during the session but time constraint of 30 minutes may be an obstacle for implementing. It seems most of our client institutions were fine with the current duration and possibly the allocation of additional time to the call could be on an as needed basis. That is after the 30 minutes, such a demo could be made available for those interested or inclined.

2. Purpose of meeting reiterated:  This call is designed to foster open communication, allowing users to voice concerns, seek clarification on product usage, and share insights for improving product experience.

4.  Application Manager Roadmap:  V9.5.1 was released on 12-16-2023. Multiple bug fixes are included. No client sites indicated installed on V9.5.X; AG indicated doing only one institution upgrade to V9.5.X and indicated procedure was same as any V9.4.X version . DFCU indicated an issue requiring upgrade RedHat for Linux requirement of V9.5. The consensus version of the group seems to be 9.4.3 or 9.4.4.  No current issues mentioned. 9.4 End of maintenance is 10-29-2024 while end of support would be 10-29-2025. One institution not on 9.4 and reiterated support has already ended

5. Kleopatra certificate question: Inquired if any institutions are having issue getting pop-up window requesting password since last upgrade. One institution is using to encrypt/decrypt files w/o that issue. AG indicated Kleopatra more commonly used as certificate manager to key in private keys or public keys received from vendors but "under the hood" encryption/decryption done by GPG.exe. This uses keys loaded into Kleopatra. Entering password for private key gets cached for certain period which may be the cause. Suggestion made to upgrade GPG on Windows as well.

6.  Axway release issue: One institution indicated FRB suggested v6.3 but majority indicated their release was v6.4 SP2 which had been mandated for 12-01-2021. Screen shot from FED provided.

7. One institution on 9.4.2HF1: inquired if able to "leapfrog" versions which group confirmed across the board on all releases. Question about difference between End of Maintenance(EOM) and End of Support(EOS). EOM is when no further updates/fixes are provided while EOS is when a product is no longer supported.

8.  AG from AscendoSoft Services:   AG mentioned once on V9.5 there is a new feature that once the Master is upgraded, one could individually choose agents to auto upgrade.

9. Phearith Mao w/Broadcom: covered command that would do a remote agent upgrade of V9.5.0 to V9.5.1 after Master upgraded

 "remote_upgrade" is base command.   Indicated " -f " force the upgrade because the agent already on 9.5.1 it would just ignore the command. Next part,

" $  /home/ams//ammedta/AM5951/……..9_5_1+build.1702453344.zip", is the path to the installation media. Lastly, " pmmao-am-linux-universal " is the host value of the remote agent desired; w/o would upgrade "ALL" agents. Reiterated that the MASTER was upgraded first. The only issue mentioned was windows agent ports for the SSHD, 50000 – 50010 were blocked and saw connection error so those had to be opened.

10. Chat discussion:   Indicated Oracle is coming after client institutions for back licensing fees for using JAVA! Most AM client institutions thwarted this by using the JDK version which is still free, and version 17 is now available AM client institutions.

4.  Application Manager Roadmap:  Broadcom is currently working to release V9.6.  9.6 to be released end of summer 2024 into September.  V9.6 notables features mentioned were delivering REST API to work with AppWorx, want to open AM to web services; also start work on web UI;  also will start integrating client for MAC operating system. Also, looking at a no reuse password mechanism recommended by Broadcom security team so the administrator can force new password creation

o   New Feature - To speed up the upgrade of an Applications Manager environment and simplify the administration of the solution. We offer a new feature called Auto-Upgrade Remote Agent that allows all agents or a subset of agents to be upgraded from the RMI server. Minimal backward compatibility with the previous version of Applications Manager also means that an upgrade can be planned in several stages.

o   This new feature lets you export Process Flows or Jobs to a JSON file using a command line. This command exports not only the definition of a process flow, but also all its dependencies. As the export file is a JSON file, it is easy to modify the information before importing. The import can also be carried out using the same command, with the JSON file as input. Finally, this new command line can be used to insert Applications Manager into a DEVOPS process flow, exporting process flows from one environment and importing them into a new environment by accepting updates to the export JSON file.

5.  Patching Issues surrounding AppWorx servers:   Mentioned Windows patching has caused AppWorx/AxWay service interruptions at times causing backlog and polled community for any such preventive measures.  One institution indicated they do stop their queues which in turn normally come back online after patching has completed.   Another institution indicated when AxWay server is patched, the first job does hangs but delete it,  then run again to clear w/o further issues.  Most client institutions indicated AxWay on same server as windows remote agent.  AxWay client version now available is V6.4 SP3. 

6. AppWorx Community on Broadcom site:  Helpful by sharing AppWorx issues institutions experience as well as suggestions for how to resolve.  Additionally, if subscribe to certain products like AppWorx will get version release announcement and notes. Broadcom indicated tickets may be opened on the site as well for assistance with AppWorx upgrades, if needed.   Providing an upgrade plan of action in your ticket would be very helpful. 

7. Chat discussion:   Alex mentioned that the "transaction savepoint or rollback required" error in AppWorx usually requires restarting the service before any other DNA job can run.  AscendoSoft also offers a fix that would address that issue without an institution be required to stop the AppWorx service and have installed at other institutions and has prevented further occurrences, thus far.

4.  Application Manager Roadmap:  V9.5.1 was released on 12-16-2023. Multiple bug fixes are included. No client sites indicated installed on V9.5.X; AG indicated doing only one institution upgrade to V9.5.X and indicated procedure was same as any V9.4.X version . DFCU indicated an issue requiring upgrade RedHat for Linux requirement of V9.5. The consensus version of the group seems to be 9.4.3 or 9.4.4.  No current issues mentioned. 9.4 End of maintenance is 10-29-2024 while end of support would be 10-29-2025. One institution not on 9.4 and reiterated support has already ended

5. Kleopatra certificate question: Inquired if any institutions are having issue getting pop-up window requesting password since last upgrade. One institution is using to encrypt/decrypt files w/o that issue. AG indicated Kleopatra more commonly used as certificate manager to key in private keys or public keys received from vendors but "under the hood" encryption/decryption done by GPG.exe. This uses keys loaded into Kleopatra. Entering password for private key gets cached for certain period which may be the cause. Suggestion made to upgrade GPG on Windows as well.

4.  Application Manager Roadmap:  Agenda had existing product roadmap with dates for review. Mentioned again that the 9.4 end of maintenance is 10/29/2024 of this year. DFCU indicated they have been evaluating 9.5.2 w/o issue thus far. Also, other institutions indicated they were running 9.5.2 in production without any issues as well. AscnedoSoft indicated that their client institutions that they had upgraded to 9.5.2 are also "not" having any issues. Reiterated maintenance for V9.5 will end in fall of  2026 while end of support would end in fall of 2027. One institution is still on V9.2.2 but actively working to get upgraded to a supported version. Any request for Broadcom support while upgrading can be initiated on their support site.

5. Requesting Enhancement(s):  Broadcom questioned regarding the best way to request a product enhancement for AppWorx. John Guinwich indicated that we should reach out to him who would reach out to the AppWorx product manager to possibly set up a conference if necessary. It is not known who the principal product manager of Application Manager is currently.

6. SFTP Java Job Concern:  Institution on V9.2.2 concerned about availability of the "SFTP_JAVA" job in upgraded version. Informed SFTP_JAVA no longer ships with newer versions of Application Manger and other institutions using Broadcom's RA FTP agent. Will add that other institutions, use various command line integrations using Command line, cURL, WinSCP, etc. as their SFTP tool but these may require some development to integrate into AppWorx.

7.  Axway Secure Client releases:   V6.4 SP5 supports Windows Server 2022; others mentioned the upgrade was straight forward. Some, questioned whether SP5 had been approved by the FED. Others indicated they are on Server 2022 but were questioned that last FED contact indicated they only supporting SP3. SP5 client indicated no issue in their production environment but consensus was that SP3 was latest supported FED version. FED would not offer support for non-compliant release(s).

8. CallScript.exe malware concern: Institution indicated security team identified callscript.exe as possible malware. Resides in the 'c' folder on the agent directory. AscendoSoft indicated it is part of AppWorx and is called when agents are starting but only runs for 30-60 seconds then goes away. May be seen as malware because. "Signed" apps have a digital signature that verifies the authenticity and integrity of the application but callscript.exe is part of AppWorx and poses no known threat.

9. Question about roadmap and DR capabilities: Institution had question about these for Broadcom. Travis indicated something could be provided to the group or perhaps on the support site. DR solution would have to be a product manager question but nothing specific exists currently except an active/passive session. Previous road map shown from 11-14-2023 call and in minutes online.

11. SSHD Vulnerability Concern:  This was discovered in V9.4.3 and resolution is to upgrade to V9.5.2. Fiserv not available to verify whether they now support V9.5.2. 5.  Patching Issues surrounding AppWorx servers:   Mentioned Windows patching has caused AppWorx/AxWay service interruptions at times causing backlog and polled community for any such preventive measures.  One institution indicated they do stop their queues which in turn normally come back online after patching has completed.   Another institution indicated when AxWay server is patched, the first job does hangs but delete it,  then run again to clear w/o further issues.  Most client institutions indicated AxWay on same server as windows remote agent.  AxWay client version now available is V6.4 SP3. 

6. AppWorx Community on Broadcom site:  Helpful by sharing AppWorx issues institutions experience as well as suggestions for how to resolve.  Additionally, if subscribe to certain products like AppWorx will get version release announcement and notes. Broadcom indicated tickets may be opened on the site as well for assistance with AppWorx upgrades, if needed.   Providing an upgrade plan of action in your ticket would be very helpful. 

7. Chat discussion:   Alex mentioned that the "transaction savepoint or rollback required" error in AppWorx usually requires restarting the service before any other DNA job can run.  AscendoSoft also offers a fix that would address that issue without an institution be required to stop the AppWorx service and have installed at other institutions and has prevented further occurrences, thus far.

4.  Application Manager Roadmap:  V9.5.1 was released on 12-16-2023. Multiple bug fixes are included. No client sites indicated installed on V9.5.X; AG indicated doing only one institution upgrade to V9.5.X and indicated procedure was same as any V9.4.X version . DFCU indicated an issue requiring upgrade RedHat for Linux requirement of V9.5. The consensus version of the group seems to be 9.4.3 or 9.4.4.  No current issues mentioned. 9.4 End of maintenance is 10-29-2024 while end of support would be 10-29-2025. One institution not on 9.4 and reiterated support has already ended

5. Kleopatra certificate question: Inquired if any institutions are having issue getting pop-up window requesting password since last upgrade. One institution is using to encrypt/decrypt files w/o that issue. AG indicated Kleopatra more commonly used as certificate manager to key in private keys or public keys received from vendors but "under the hood" encryption/decryption done by GPG.exe. This uses keys loaded into Kleopatra. Entering password for private key gets cached for certain period which may be the cause. Suggestion made to upgrade GPG on Windows as well.

6.  Axway release issue: One institution indicated FRB suggested v6.3 but majority indicated their release was v6.4 SP2 which had been mandated for 12-01-2021. Screen shot from FED provided.

7. One institution on 9.4.2HF1: inquired if able to "leapfrog" versions which group confirmed across the board on all releases. Question about difference between End of Maintenance(EOM) and End of Support(EOS). EOM is when no further updates/fixes are provided while EOS is when a product is no longer supported.

8.  AG from AscendoSoft Services:   AG mentioned once on V9.5 there is a new feature that once the Master is upgraded, one could individually choose agents to auto upgrade.

9. Phearith Mao w/Broadcom: covered command that would do a remote agent upgrade of V9.5.0 to V9.5.1 after Master upgraded

 "remote_upgrade" is base command.   Indicated " -f " force the upgrade because the agent already on 9.5.1 it would just ignore the command. Next part,

" $  /home/ams//ammedta/AM5951/……..9_5_1+build.1702453344.zip", is the path to the installation media. Lastly, " pmmao-am-linux-universal " is the host value of the remote agent desired; w/o would upgrade "ALL" agents. Reiterated that the MASTER was upgraded first. The only issue mentioned was windows agent ports for the SSHD, 50000 – 50010 were blocked and saw connection error so those had to be opened.

10. Chat discussion:   Indicated Oracle is coming after client institutions for back licensing fees for using JAVA! Most AM client institutions thwarted this by using the JDK version which is still free, and version 17 is now available AM client institutions.

Purpose of meeting reiterated:  This call is designed to foster open communication, allowing users to voice concerns, seek clarification on product usage, and share insights for improving product experience. Additionally, it serves as an opportunity for the product provider to collect valuable feedback and discuss the product roadmap, ensuring that future developments align with user expectations.  Also reiterated call is for Fiserv/DNA integration client institutions.

3.   Introduced the following speakers:

4.  Application Manager Roadmap:  Agenda had existing product roadmap with dates for review.   Polled audience for any client institutions possibly still on 9.3X but no responders.  Mentioned again end of maintenance for 9.4 will end in October of this year, 2025.  The end of maintenance for 9.5 is August of 2026.  9.5.3 was released at the beginning of September 2024 which also had some bug fixes.  9.6.X was just released this year and promises to provide an array of bug fixes and new features such as password history manager, MAC client, view passwords in plain text, pop-up messages on user logins, and REST API integration.  One caller indicated they were currently testing 9.6.

5. 9.6.0 Observations_#1: It was mentioned that there were two emissions from the 9.6 release notes that were significant.  One, there is no longer a requirement for a web server because that has been integrated into the product itself. So, now on MASTER instead of two JAVA processes, there will be three.  The third being the integrated web server no should have concerns Apache or TomCat.  Was a question about whether that "third" JAVA could be turned off and just still used Apache but not known yet. 

6. 9.6.0 Observations_#2: Also, the use of Oracle pipes for process communication now seems to have been replaced with Oracle Advanced Queuing.  Switching from pipes to advanced queuing is more likely relevant if using Oracle RAC.  Pipes are instant specific. Broadcom support asked to review this for further discussion then Phearith confirmed that the move from pipe is so it could work better with RAC environments for failover and load balancing.  Previously, load balancing had been recommended to be disabled since pipes were "instant specific".  Processes have a sleep-wake cycle so it can "rest" on one database node so if load balance was enabled, it could awaken on different node. When this occurs, communicating within the pipe could possibly get lost hence when deactivating a queue, it may not deactivate. There was also some discussion about whether the installer validates permissions accurately, which will be reviewed for another time. Broadcom indicated there was one support case indicating grants were missing so further review is still required

7. Client Issues with any 9.5.3 Installations:  AscnedoSoft asked to share any possible issues experienced in these upgrades, thus far.  Alex indicated that 9.5.2 and 9.5.3 both have been reliable and stable.  No glitches or issues presented thus far running DNA jobs. However, he did indicate that you will still need to use the "older" 9.3 ntspawn.exe but there are references in the 9.6 release notes that suggest this was addressed.  Also, sometimes the security software removes "callscript.ext" and the lbnt.zip installer file because it contains call scripts.  It was mentioned that the install medium may be quarantined by installer script could be go in and start deleting perl.dll but only one client institution mentioned this.  So, if processes are not starting after upgrade, verify Perl.dll is in local directory

8. 9.6.X Possible Release Roadmap:  Broadcom indicated there are usually two builds per calendar year so maybe July or later in 2025, perhaps. 

9. Q & A:  Question about release notes. Client institution on 9.4.2HF1 wanted to know if any possible issue about upgrading to 9.6.X or if they would need to go to 9.5.X, beforehand. Broadcom support indicated no such issue but release notes on a particular level of JAVA required.  Also, question about whether current AM installs could accept newer release of JAVA to get more secure versions. Phearith indicated that Broadcom uses version in the path variable, but institutions do have the option of updating as long as add to appropriate path environment variable.
