Description:

What is the difference between the jar files:

  1. Agent.jar - canRedefine and canRetransform settings are both set to true
  2. AgentNoRedef.jar - canRedefine setting is set to false (no longer used)
  3. AgentNoRetrans.jar - canRetransform setting is set to false (no longer used)
  4. AgentNoRedefNoRetrans.jar - canRedefine and canRetransform settings are both set to false. With the introduction of the retransformation option in the IBM JVM 1.6 this jar was developed to address performance issues being experienced by some clients and replaces the AgentNoRedef.jar and AgentNoRetrans.jar

Solution:If you are using an IBM JVM the recommended jar file to use is AgentNoRedefNoRetrans.jar - the reason that this jar file can be used with IBM JVM 1.5 even though it does not have the retransformation option is due to the fact that this setting will be ignored since it does not exist.

Hi Manish Parikh,

This is purely informative of course   We are marking these official since they are syndication of our existing official knowledgebase articles.  BTW, good idea about the docs, I'll send this their way.

I remember those days where we had an entire spreadsheet of agents deployed and all the different setting I had to put in based on how it was customized. Man, that was some tedious work. Glad all that is behind me and my current environment is nothing but java 1.7+ phew.....

Great info to have Mary_Clark............thanks for putting this together. Hopefully this can find it's way into a doc form available as a prod doc.

Thanks

Manish
