Can Nimsoft\CAUIM monitor Oracle DB in AIX PowerHA clusters ?

  • 1.  Can Nimsoft\CAUIM monitor Oracle DB in AIX PowerHA clusters ?

    Hi All,

     

    Could anybody tell about how to monitor Oracle DB in AIX PowerHA cluster nodes . cluster probe is giving just one type of cluster 'veritas' which does not work . also we are not able to make connections to any of the passive node .

    Hi David ,

     

    Tried with oracle probe already it’s not connecting to passive nodes of the AIX cluster . how would we know if the active one goes down and passive one runs DB .

    Based on what information was provided 'Tried with oracle probe already it’s not connecting to passive nodes' this indicates the oracle probe is successfully monitoring the active node, Oracle RAC is not used, and this is a currently unsupported configuration. If correct:

    1 open an Idea requesting support for this setup

    2 some creativity will be needed and for that it is recommended to contact the Services team which is now HCL.

    Apart from that one of the active node too is not connecting ,

    Checked the environment variables they are right.

    Correct tnsnames.ora file entries

    Installed locally on node so no client required .

    About checking probes permissions... let me check

    Hi David ,

     

    As per the techdoc

     

    1.supported versions of probe as per OS (oracle version 5.41; OS – AIX 7.1); supported Oracle DB version (12.1.0.2.0) ;checked

    2.environmment variables; checked

    3.tnsname.ora entry ;checked

    4.client server version confirmation not required since Nimsoft agent is locally installed

    5.username permissions checked

     

    Could you please guide if I’m missing something out ?

    Also did you export oracle related environmental variables into UIM controller probe, as KB mentioned ?

    oracle probe connection errors: Create OCI environ - CA Knowledge 

    UIM controller (robot) runs with root, while Oracle runs with different user, so UIM controller needs to know these variables.

    Hi Ishitani,

     

    We haven’t tried accessing oracle DB remotely though there is an option  to do that from the Reporting HUB of the CI but changes and oracle client installations will have to be done on hub.

     

    And yes we have checked the right controller probe environment variables .

    Hi,

    Would you be able to give us more specific about your monitoring need ?

     

    In AIX PowerHA, one virtual IP address will be assigned to "master" node. If "master" down, "backup" promotes to "master" and take over the same IP address.

     

    So from outside, IP address (for contacting Oracle service) is consistent no matter which node is playing the service.

    If I am correct, then you could consider doing Oracle service monitoring remotely, rather than locally.

    Hi ,

     

    removed them ,

    Also, I tried continuing with Active nodes for a while , as standalone oracle monitoring DB

    getting , error in setting connection on one of them , 

     

    "Conection test to <profile> failed with : create OCI environment failed with rc=-1"

    checked the error techdoc for the same ,

    as per that environment variables and user permissions are in place still not able to connect to it .

    Hi,

    Please check if the service name (you specified in oracle probe) is pingable via tnsping.

    The Oracle probe can be installed on central robot or hub and should then connect to the Oracle DB on the cluster address. So in case of failover in powerha the probe only notices a short disconnect and then carries on.
