    Hi Guys,

I'm quite new to the UC4 product and philosophy. Do you have any experience with training providers here in Europe? Can you maybe recommend something? How did you master thist tool?

    Thanks in advance

    Marcin

    Marcin:

Is the product new to just you or to both you and your company?  Will you be installing and administering the product or just be a user?

If it is new to just you, have you asked your co-workers for assistance?

If it is new to your company, what training is being offered as part of your purchase?

When we purchased the tool training was provided by UC4.  While the training (by the fabulous Dave Kellermanns) was rather basic, it provided a solid basis of the tool 's architecture and capabilities and how to define various objects and be quickly productive.  I do not know if this training was included as part of the purchase price.

I strongly recommend having a "sandbox" type Client where you can practice object definition and try various techniques and not affect others.  Another good resource is the vendor provided documentation, especially the Best Practices Guide as a place to start.

Also, I have availed myself of the training sessions at the yearly Innovate user conferences.

I am aware of both Automic and independent companies that provide consulting and training.  While I haven't had any dealing nor any affiliation with Philipp Elmer at http://www.automicblog.com/automicblog/, I have found lots of good information at his site.  This is not a recommendation, just pointing out at least one non-Automic resource that you could possibly investigate.

And, obviously there is this forum.

    Hi Marcin,

    Welcome to Automic. :-)

As Mark_Hadler_430 pointed out, the forum is a great place to learn about the products.
We've also started to post some videos in the 'How To...' section.

Please feel free to post any questions you might have. If you have them, I'm sure there are others that do too.

    Hello Jenn, Mark,

Thanks for the warm welcome :)

So let me maybe elaborate a little bit more.

I'm co-administrating a quite complex environment highly dependent on UC4 job triggering. As most of my team (me including) have the basic skills down (creating, managing jobs, scheduling etc), I know there is a lot more to it. But here you need inspiration. Watching someone else tackle similar challenges can be a real eye-opener. So any resources may be helpful :)

I will definitely subscribe the Philip Elmer blog, thanks! :)

    Marcin:

One of the places where I get ideas from are the presentations at the annual Innovate conferences.  While I rarely have the exact problem to solve as the presenter I often am able to use bits and pieces of their solution as inspiration for our own needs.

It's too bad that the presentation materials are not better managed and accessible on the current Automic site.  On the previous UC4 site they were easily located and downloaded.  If they are available currently I have not found them (I'll admit that I haven't tried too hard.)  It would be nice if they were added to this forum, perhaps in their own category or at least in the existing How To section.

There is also this thread regarding the status of the 2013 conference materials, but it remains unanswered much to my disappointment - http://community.automic.com/discussion/comment/1605/#Comment_1605
