  • 1.  Oracle CDB/multi-tenant support for 12c?

    Hi there,

I previously asked about 12c support. When you were verifying 12c support, was that with a standalone 12c database, or with the 12c CDB multi-tenant architecture?

See this link for more information: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/multitenant/overview/index.html. Oracle has indicated they are moving away from stand alone databases.

We're using Automic Engine, v9 sp11, with eyes on 11.2!

    Thx,
    Eric

Although I have not installed v11.2 on 12c multi-tenant.  I have install AM v9 on 12c multi-tenant without issues.  There is not differences as far as connections on the client side.  You will need Host, Port, and Service_Name.

Quick sync up here. Is there a more official answer? I'd like to tell our DBAs with more confidence than "it sounds like it should work because someone got it to work with another similar tool."

Friendly bump. Can anyone speak absolutely on this? Looking more at Automic staff than community at large. I have also opened a ticket with support but no response yet.

I know I am on Oracle 12c with 11.2, but I'm guessing that the multi-tenant piece is an option and I'm not sure how mine was installed.  Will see if I can find out.

Finally upgraded to AE v12, and coming back to this question. DBAs want a clear answer on whether or not AutomationEngine is certified to work with Oracle's multi-tenancy architecture, for Oracle versions 12.1 and/or 12.2. The Compatibility Matrix only mentions "12c", without any mention of multi-tenancy or different Oracle patches. Our DBAs would like more explicit sign off from CA/Automic on these particulars.

New to the CA community (guess we all are?) so not sure adding a comment to a 2.5 year old post is the right way to resuscitate it, or if a new thread would be more appropriate. I'll do the latter in a day or two if I get no response here.

    Thanks!

I opened a support case to inquire on this, too.

I would hold supports feet to the fire on this until you get a satisfactory response, and then share it here.

Here is the response from the support team:

The official answer is that we support Oracle 12c and therefore all features on 12c.

Since getting a firm response on this has been so inexplicably tiresome, I further drove home the point on the ticket by replying back with, "if CA/Automic support of "12c" implies official support for multi-tenancy and any other 12c features, then that's great." I haven't received anything back, and don't expect to, unless a point of clarification is forthcoming. In the case of no response back, I'll take my statement as sound, and a more direct affirmation of official multi-tenancy support.

Other customers won't be able to view my support ticket, but in case this subject comes up in some form down the road, you might have luck having the support team reference my case, #: 01075490.

    Cheers!

EDIT: Even better, the support team doubled down on the confirmation. Much appreciated!

Just to confirm, we do mean that all features within 12c are supported which includes multi-tenancy.
