AS400 email Notification for job/uproc in message wait

First of all, I was just trying to post a topic and somehow, I was not completed yet and accidentally pressed enter a couple of times and went back to forums.  Not sure if my new topic got posted, but if so, I hope the moderator sees this post and deletes the first post.

 

We have a $U v6.1.41 and OS/400 v6R1. 

Just FYI for now, we already have uprocs set up on our Unix environment and so far working fine, incl. the email notification for the 4 job status as in the notification setup.  However, we also have an AS/400 environment, and this is our first time setting up uprocs there.  We want to set up the notification email for job aborts and jobs in message wait on AS/400, but then when I was looking at the documentation, $Universe Univiewer Console Interface Setup Manual Version 6.1, it says on section 3.2.6.12, that "Enable email notification for this Uproc: (not available on OS/400)".  However, I configured the Node settings for SMTP and the uproc setup, and somehow, we received email messages for Completed and Aborted Uprocs.  I assume the level 41 patch has fixed this issue.

 

Now, to my question or information request.   We ran a uproc and somehow our job, went into a message wait on the AS/400, and needed a response.  I waited for 30 mins and didn't get an email notification for the job in message wait.  So, I checked the UVC and saw the status of the uproc is in Running state.  Is there a way we can monitor for the AS/400 job in message wait through $U? 

 

On the other hand, I also noticed that the AS/400 job is not the same as the uproc name.  Is this the norm?  Is there also a way we can set up $U to execute the a job in AS/400 with the same name as the uproc?

I would say that one option you will have is to configure an alert for "long running duration". This is not exactly the same kind of alert but this can alert you if it waits for too long.

 

 

Is there also a way we can set up $U to execute the a job in AS/400 with the same name as the uproc?

 

I support the job in AS400 has a short name like "U000888", right? This is the technical name for Dollar Universe objects. This can't be changed for now.

1) Yes, long running duration is one option we can set up esp. if we already know how long the job runs,  However, for any application batch jobs, support team dictates immediate response to any messages to avoid prolonged run that will exceed the batch and online window. 

2)  The AS/400 job name starts with A00000xx, where xx=number.  Not sure if there are clients who already complained about this because this is quite confusing, especially, to long time admin/developers on AS/400.   Some third party scheduler products submit the same job name as the ones created in their scheduler.
