  • 1.  Capture a CA-7 Command?

    I wanted to know if there is a way to capture a CA-7 Command, using OPS/MVS?  We have an opportunity to capture a CA-7 Demand command then perform some checks before allowing the command to be processed by CA-7, then perform the job submission.  Has anyone performed a similar process?  Does OPS/MVS have the capability to interface with CA-7 and capture a command before it is processed and the job submitted?

     

    Any input is greatly appreciated!

    Hello Steve,

     

    The only possible way CA OPS/MVS could intercept a CA 7 DEMAND command was if it was issued as a z/OS console command. Are the DEMAND commands you are referring to being issued as z/OS MODIFY (F) commands against the CA7ONL started task? If yes, you can create a CMD rule to intercept the MODIFY command and perform any actions before the command is actually executed.

    If the DEMAND command is being issued on the CA 7 panels or by any other CA  7 utility CA OPS/MVS won't be able to intercept it.

    Let me know if you need further information about the CMD rule to intercept the MODIFY command on the z/OS console.

    Mario,

     

    The DEMAND commands are being submitted through the CA-7 Panels.  I believe the command could be secured to prevent anyone from using the command from the panel, except an ID for OPS/MVS.  Force the operators to issue the command via the console, then OPS/MVS can capture the command input then perform any checking before submitting the job.  Your thoughts?

    Hi Steve,

     

    It seems to be possible. However, it looks to me that it wouldn't be practical for the operators to have to issue the demands as console commands. I'm not a CA-7 specialist but it must have some ways to create dependencies that wouldn't allow a job to be submitted unless some conditions are met. 

    Before going this path of disallowing the commands through the CA-7 panels I suggest that you post a question at the CA Workload Automation community (CA Workload Automation ) to see how other CA-7 users handle this situation. If the community of users doesn't answer the CA-7 specialists at CA will give you an answer.
