  • 1.  Why do I have to login multiple times each day?

    Posted Jul 19, 2016 06:08 PM
When I login to Rally (rallydev.com) in the morning, I often have to login to rallydev multiple times each day.

This is possibly triggered when I visit a browser tab that I was using "yesterday", and rallydev has logged me out. Even if I don't use that browser tab and I change back to a tab with the fresh rallydev, I often have to login to rallydev again. (This may or may not be related to another issue where I login to a browser tab, then visit a tab from "yesterday", and I can't use the browser Back button to continue work from yesterday ... I have to login again).

This is very frustrating, especially because often this requirement to login again displays a popup window which blocks automatic password entry.

    Please advise,

    Hey Ken,

Your subscription administrator can set the session timeout for Agile Central to up to 10 hours, but it would definitely log you out overnight even when the window is left open. It's possible that, depending on browser, the separate tab isn't using the same session as another when you log back in.

I would recommend talking to your subscription administrator regarding this setting. Hope that helps!

Our session timeout is set high, that isn't my problem. I understand that requires me to login in the morning.
However once I've logged in for a new day, I shouldn't have to login multiple times, even if I happen to open a browser window that was auto-logged out yesterday.

Ken, I've seen exactly what you're describing and without SSO there's no good cure. In essence, when you call the timed-out session to the forefront you basically make that your current session and all of your other logged-in tabs (at least in the same browser) adopt its state. I'm sure that your security folks would advise you not to leave your machine logged in overnight but let's face it, people do and the only thing I can suggest is to be sure that you close your browser sessions before you leave for the day.

Did I mention how nice it is to have SSO?  ;-) I know that's probably not the answer that you were hoping for but at least now you know your options. Hope that helps.

Eric, we have SSO at work but it doesn't extend to Rally.  Seems to me that this poor user experience doesn't have to exist either way.

Rallydev pages worked better a few months ago, such that even when you were logged-out overnight, once you logged in again the next morning, the other browser tabs worked by simply going Back in each browser tab.  This problem began shortly after the Rally site was rebranded. My guess is there was a change in session handling.
