How do I remove values from the Iteration Dropdown without deleting the iteration?

As we continue to add new Iterations and Releases, the drop down lists with these values are getting annoyingly long.   I can't figure out how to reduce the number of items appearing in the dropdown without deleting them.

There are a dozen places where some functionality on limiting the values in the dropdown would be helpful.  Here is just one example:

One the Track Tasks page,  All Tasks view...
We have defined over 50 Iterations, with dates ranging from more than a year ago through most of this year.   All 50+ iterations are listed in the dropdown, so that if I want to view just the tasks from a single iteration,  I have to scroll through that entire list to find the one that I want.
Even if I creat a Custom View that limits the Releases or Iterations that will be in the result set, all of the Timbox values for ever and ever will be listed in the dropdown.
It would be super-great if we could create a View based on the Tasks' Work Item's State or Release Name or based on either Iteration or Release Dates.  So, a View such as Current and Future Iteration Tasks is ideal, if the Timboxes available from the dropdown can be limited to only No Entry and the values that appear in the result set.
I do not want to delete past Iterations, which would solve my little problem but create a whole host of new ones.  :)

There are similar inefficiencies all over for both Releases and Iterations, and applying to different pages and views.

This is a well-known issue and there's an entry for it in Idea Manager at https://ideas.rallydev.com/ideas/D2017 but the entry was locked a while ago. The answer from Steph Tanner of CA that "If you mark the release or iteration as accepted it will no longer show up in certain dropdowns" is patently ridiculous- those "certain dropdowns" don't begin to cover the very basic use cases that you described here. I've spoken directly to the product management teams at CA about this and it's supposedly somewhere in their development roadmap but the feedback loop about what's on the roadmap and the timeline leaves quite a lot of room for improvement.

If you're a subadmin then you might consider posting about this or having your subadmin post in the private Subscription Admins forum and if you raise it with your CA Solution Architect (or your sales rep if you don't have an SA) then that will add your voice to the chorus of folks requesting it.
