  • 1.  How to configure a device for SPM tests

How can I get a device in Spectrum configured/discovered as a test host for SPM tests?  We have a need to test some communication ports for availability in conjunction with running processes.  The only devices we have that show up as test hosts are network equipment.  We would like to get a server set up to do this as well.

    Thanks

The machine is installed with System edge and SRM packages.?

Under service Performance Manger ->Tests-> host the device must be present there

Almost all servers we have discovered in Spectrum are running SystemEDGE.  Not familiar with "SRM packages", so those wouldn't be included in the agent install.

We need to have sysedge / SRM AIM installed on the servers. Once this done , try rediscovering the server with sysedge credentials and you should be all set.

Thanks for the information.  SystemEDGE isn't a problem.  We have no information on SRM AIM though.  We'll have to track that down.

Oddly, we do have one server, a Unix box that shows up as a test host for EVERYTHING.  Unfortunately, we don't have any real acces to this server other than to monitor it.  Pretty sure the admins wouldn't give us access to load a bunch of scripts or anything on it.  We're trying to get one of our servers configured to work with this.

Again, thanks for your response.  These are the first refrences I've seen to needing an AIM to make this work.

If you deploy your SystemEDGE agents using VAIM, you will need to push these packages out to servers you want to run the SPM tests from:

    CA SystemEDGE Advanced Encryption

    CA SystemEDGE SRM

If you are going to manage your SPM tests from Spectrum, you will want to run the SystemEDGE agent on those servers in unmanaged mode – so they are NOT managed by VAIM.  If you don’t then then VAIM will overwrite the tests you create from your Spectrum server!  (unless they’ve fixed this somehow that I’m not aware of!)

If you have already installed the agents and need to decouple them from VAIM management, there is a procedure that support can send for that.

IF you are installing SystemEDGE manually, install the following:

    SystemEDGE core

    Advanced Encryption

    SRM AIM

Set up a read-write community in the agent that you will use in Spectrum to configure your SPM tests.

    FYI… SPM in Spectrum = SRM in SystemEDGE …  go figure…  ☺

    Hope this helps,

    Chris

Thanks for the detail.  We do our sysedge installs manually so this should be pretty simple.

    Thanks
