    Simon Cockayne (CA) :

    Hey folks! What's up?

    Lenn Thompson - CA :

Okay everyone. Thanks for joining us. Let's get started. What questions do you have for the CA Plex team?

    Simon Cockayne (CA) :

Hat tip to our awesome Community Manager Lenn Thompson, for organizing these office hours sessions. Thanks, Lenn.

    Michael :

With CA Plex r7.1, the Control IDs allocated for GUI panel elements generated onto a panel can now be stored in the

panel design for each panel. This means that QA automation tool such as HP QTP can work on the Plex generated .NET Client

    functions

    Lenn Thompson - CA :

@Simon: My pleasure, sir. Thanks for always being so enthusiastic about them.

    Michael :

is there also a way for java apps to use test automation?

    Simon Cockayne (CA) :

    @Michael, great question.

    Michael :

Test trials with Tools QFT or Ranorex failed with 7.2 while not getting unique control ids

    Simon Cockayne (CA) :

@Michael, Plex does not support fixed ControlIDs for Java. We do have fixed ControlIDs for WinC and .NET.

    Michael :

@Simon: I have some other questions, should I "fire" them now or later into the chat?

    Simon Cockayne (CA) :

@Michael I believe fixed ControlIDs for Java is an idea on the Plex Ideas wall: ca.com/plex/ideas

    Simon Cockayne (CA) :

    http://ca.com/plex/ideas

    Michael :

So you need more votes to get this idea for one of the next sprints

    Simon Cockayne (CA) :

Here is the link to the specific idea: https://communities.ca.com/ideas/235722493

    Michael :

When are the fixes for 7.2 available anounced for end of q1

    Simon Cockayne (CA) :

Please do vote it up or down and add any justification.

    Michael :

for 7.1 we received PTF 26.004  in April

    Simon Cockayne (CA) :

@Michael I don't have an ETA for when a PTF for Plex r7.2 will be available. Watch this space.

    Michael :

Our customers may not be able to move to 6.1 till end of june (eol of Plex6.1)

Is there a extended support option available?

    Simon Cockayne (CA) :

@Michael Did someone announce that PTF for r7.2 would be available?

    Michael :

yes, within a support case we got an official date

    Simon Cockayne (CA) :

@Michael Please can you share the support case number?

    Michael :

    will send you a mail

    Simon Cockayne (CA) :

    @Michael Thanks.

    Daniel Short :

@Michael - I believe Extended Support is usually available for one year after the EOS date if requested.  Contact Support with your request.

    Michael :

    Concerning another "idea wall issue"

    Michael :

What are the plans for updating MFC based applications using still "Visual Studia 2005"

    Simon Cockayne (CA) :

@Michael Are you willing to share your last name or company? Either here in chat, or via email?

    Michael :

    Michael Weber /AXSOS

    Simon Cockayne (CA) :

    Ah! Hello sir! :-)

    Michael :

    ;-)

    Michael :

When will we get the support for a new compiler with C++

    Michael :

In Plex 4.5 there was the menu "Make" in G&B available (not using the COM Interface to Visual Studio)

    Michael :

Why can't the same process for bulding C' or Java apps also be used for c++?

    Michael :

    C' -->C#

    Simon Cockayne (CA) :

@Michael - Technical Currency items (like support newer version of Visual Studio) is moving toward the top of out backlog. No ETA at this time. Great topic for the conference. Are you going to the conf in Austion? (http://plex2e.com>

    Simon Cockayne (CA) :

    I meant "our backlog". Sorry.

    Simon Cockayne (CA) :

@Michael - Not sure about using same process for C++ as java/C#. Will discuss with dev team.

    Michael :

Where do I see the stories for the next sprints

    Simon Cockayne (CA) :

Austion > Austion. Sorry, cannot type today ;-)

    Simon Cockayne (CA) :

    Austion! LOL

    Simon Cockayne (CA) :

Austin. YES! That's what I meant!

    Michael :

So after the conference there will be the slides available?

    Simon Cockayne (CA) :

@Michael: Since Plex r7.2 IR1, we are in a hiatus on Plex sprinting. We are working on some Engineering Exellence initiatives, to help us improve QA Automation and to go faster down the line. We are also working on Technical Currency items, like certifications.

    Simon Cockayne (CA) :

Conference slides are typically shared after the conference.

    Michael :

We have 99,9% of cusomers not willing to move to C#: They are not really getting many features in the last 10 years, but paying the maintenance ....

    Simon Cockayne (CA) :

But the slides are no substitue for being there live. We'd love to see you there!

    Michael :

how can I convince to stick with the product ...

    Simon Cockayne (CA) :

keen to know why they don't want to move to C#.

    Simon Cockayne (CA) :

And what features do they want? Are those features on the idea wall?

    Simon Cockayne (CA) :

Are those customers voting on ideas that they want?

    Michael :

    yes they are

    Simon Cockayne (CA) :

Can you give me an example idea that they are keen on?

    Michael :

The voting process is not accepted by end customers they are asking us as distributer to have a "super vote" to speak withone voice for them ....

    Michael :

    see above ;-)

    Simon Cockayne (CA) :

We don't have a super vote process. We are not planning to introduce one.

    Markus Wagner :

&Simon - the support of newer version of Visual Studio is a point of the matter for us. Will I get some more information at the conference? Moving to c# will be a major challenge for us (e.g. finding the time between regular releases of our software)

    Michael :

supported compilers because of regulatory rules (banking/insurance!)

    Simon Cockayne (CA) :

@Michael - keen to know why don't customers accept the voting process.

    Michael :

most of them are only German speaking ...

    Simon Cockayne (CA) :

@Markus - We can surely discuss and  collaborate around Visual Studio (new version) at the conference.

    Michael :

    Simon

    Michael :

we are discussing this issue more than 10 years - nothing happend

    Michael :

Also websydian is asking for this about 8 years

    Michael :

on all conferences I attended as speaker

    Michael :

we had good discussions, but the result is not visible

    Simon Cockayne (CA) :

Well...I see/hear growing demand for support for new version of Visual Studio. This is having a tangible impact on the priority.

    Simon Cockayne (CA) :

Your voices are being heard. Your voices are making a difference.

    Michael :

    Thanks ;-)

    Michael :

Let's see what we get till end of this year ....

    Simon Cockayne (CA) :

P.s. As to the voting process, thought it is not ideal, you might consider translating ideas (in English) that you consider critical to your customer base, into German, and direct them to the link to vote.

    Simon Cockayne (CA) :

Inconvenient, I grant you, but I would love for the voices of yr German customers to be heard.

    Michael :

Are there also plans to add new features to the Plattform APIs e.g. for file handling/ creation time, modificatio time, file size etc.

    Michael :

or is it part of the different comunities / customers to share patterns?

    Simon Cockayne (CA) :

@Michael - no firm plans for such APIS (file handling etc). As usual, if folks want them, we encourage to submit/vote on Ideas. This would likely be a lower priority than Visual Studio currency.

    Simon Cockayne (CA) :

@Michael - I think I'd like to see the community share patterns. I wonder what the community thinks about this?

    Michael :

ther was a patternFactory initiative  2000-2005

    Michael :

and there are still some platforms available to share patterns

    Simon Cockayne (CA) :

Maybe Pattern sharing in the community would be a good topic for the conference.

    Michael :

PatternFactory - Stella Tools (CA Plex Developer Tools)

    Lenn Thompson - CA :

Are there any other questions for our CA Plex team this morning?

    Simon Cockayne (CA) :

We have a three "Unconference" slots at the conference. Anyone can suggest topics for these...and depending on the mood of the conference we will decide what we will cover.

    Simon Cockayne (CA) :

Well folks, I really enjoyed this.

    Lenn Thompson - CA :

Okay folks, since there aren't any more questions, we'll wrap up a couple minutes early today. If you have any other questions, please do post them out in the community!

    Michael :

    Thanks for your time

    Michael :

    Say hello to Rob

    Lenn Thompson - CA :

    @Michael You're welcome

    Simon Cockayne (CA) :

Safe travel to Austin, for those heading to the conference.
