Pingable Devices on Landscape

Hi Everyone.

Does anyone know how many Pingable Devices a Landscape can handle without having any performance issues?
We want to discover more than 20,000 Pingables on two Landscapes. What is your experience?

Is that 20,000 in total or on each landscape? We have had 6000 on one before with no issues at all. I don't know the theoretical maximums for ping, however I would suggest if they are devices that can do SNMP you make sure they don't send traps to you, as you will help lower the load. that's the only time we noticed it caused any performance issues to us. Sorry I can't give you a definitive answer

Hello Marcus,

As per your description, 10k on each landscape should be of no problem if there are no other snmp models. But you need to consider the following as well

1) Does the landscape also includes SNMP model?

2) If yes does these send traps? Traps per second?

3) Does the pingable model send traps ?

i suggest running perf collector on your setup to check the current performance of Spectrum before adding these pingable models. However there is no hard coded value for supported pingable models. It depends on various factors such as traps per second / event/alarms per second , Polling interval etc. Following the thumb rule 2000 devices (snmp) are supported by Spectrum. It can also vary depending on the number of models per device.
