We are noticing that LLAWP process does not die when IIS is stopped. LLAWP process keeps on running. We have also check that Application pool user (network service) has full access to LLAWP.exe. Anything else we need to check ?

    Webagent : R12 spr3 Cr10
    Policy server : R12 spr CR10
    IIS 6

    Good morning gunjan,

How exactly are you shutting down IIS?

I have seen this happen on IIS6 if you just shut down the WWW service or the web server instance.
Usually if you go to services and shut down IIS admin this will shut down all Web components and allow the LLAWP process to stop.

Is this causing you some problem that you are trying to resolve?

With a little more information about the problem and the steps you are taking we might be able to provide a little more insight as to what is happening in your environment.

    Hope this helps

    Gene,

We stop IIS from command prompt. iisreset /stop & /start
Not seeing any problems as of now but just wanted to know why it is not stopping the agent worker process.

    Thanks
    Gunjan.

    Hi Gunjan,

When using iisreset /stop & /start I have seen it take between 1 to 2 minutes to stop.
The LLAWP process is the last thing to shut down and takes some time to shut down properly once all of the web server and other agents components are down.
If you have waited 2+ minutes and it is still not shutting down I would check your processes and see if there are any IIS processes that are not shutting down properly as this could be why the LLAWP process is not shutting down.

    Hope this helps

    Hi Gene,

I have waited for upto 5 mins , process is still there. Also i tried to stop IIS Admin service as you had suggested. It did not help. I also checked to see if the PID of the LLAWP process changes once we do a stop/start , that also remains the same.
Is it a problem if the agent worked process does not shut down after IIS stop ? Coz we are not seeing any problems in the environment at least as of today.

    Gunjan.

    Hi Gunjan.,

No this is not a problem. The newer agents that use LLAWP are all designed to check if the LLAWP process is still running and if there to attach to it and use it.
So the fact that you are not having any problems is expected.

If you would like to spend the time to try and find out why your LLAWP process is not shutting down you will probably need to open a support case on this issue and they will probably need to do a live meeting to look at your environment specifically.

    Hope this helps
