  • 1.  Norton Mobile Security - Locate - How does it work?

    Posted Mar 11, 2011 04:51 PM

I have loaded Norton Mobile Security on my Sprint EVO 4G - Android.

I am checking out the functionality for the company.

I set up Locate, Lock and Wipe.

Texted Locate my-password to the phone

The text is received by the phone.  What should happen next.

As far as I can see - NOTHING

    What should happen?

    Thanks for your help,

    Steve

    Hi Steve,

I have just given this a test on my own Norton Mobile Security for Android- the remote lock and remote locate are working for me. I did not test the remote wipe!  &: )

Did you correctly set up the "Buddies"?  Also: did the "Test Anti-Theft Commands" fuction for you?  (The ones performed right on the phone, after anti-theft is set up)

Does "lock [password]" work?  That defintiely should, if NMS is running and the phone is receiving texts.

Remote locate will not work if the Android phone's GPS is turned off.  The "Buddy" phone sending the text will receive a message to that effect.

For future reference: here's a link to the Norton Mobile Security forum: http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Mobile-Apps-Public-Beta/bd-p/norton_mobile_pb

(This forum is intended for enterprise products rather than Norton.  The enterprise protection product for Android, Symantec Enterprise Protection Mobile Edition for Android, is currently being developed)

Anyway, please update this thread with your progress!

    Thanks and best regards,

    Mick

    Hi LB,

There's a dedicated product which does all that and more in large environments.  Check out Symantec Mobile Management (http://www.symantec.com/business/mobile-management), which offers support for Android, iPhone, Windows Mobile etc.

If you're asking specifically about this feature for Norton Mobile Security (rather than the enterprise version) this forum is the best place to go: http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Mobile-Apps-Public-Beta/bd-p/norton_mobile_pb

    Thanks and best regards,
