October 13, Session Recap

Q: Question from my colleague - Has Rally every thrrough about adding a field on reports / view on the number of days in current state - we know it can be achieved by filters but it is a bit more bother

A: The Cycle Time page/tab in the Team Board page currently does not consider the Work Days that are specified in your Workspace. This is worked on by Rally Engineering and is going to be fixed.

Q: question on Team Board: Charts - Flow Efficiency for Last 12 Months ---- Can you explain in more detail than what is given in Help regarding the 'Non Value Add' and 'Value Add' categories

A: "Non Value Add" relates to the time a work item (story, defect, feature) is in a state that's unproductive. For example if the work item is Blocked or if the Ready flag is raised then the time the work item spends in this condition is inefficient and non-productive. We accumulate these times in the 'Non Value Add' column. The 'Value Add' column is where a work item is spending time in productive states, meaning it is being actively worked on.

Q: Question on Team Board: When using the Team Board and creating a new User Story with a Template, the Flow State is defaulting to 'Defined' since our template has several Tasks pre-loaded.  Is there a way to have the Flow State default to 'Undefined' while keeping the current Template which attaches Tasks?

A: Unfortunately not. Templates do not include the FlowState field. The reason is because Flow State is a field that's specific to each team and the templates intend to be generic and used by all teams. You can see that Schedule State is included in the Template since it is a field that applies to all teams.

Q: I noticed the newer filter UI on the notifications screen, however the advanced filters are still not available. Is that something that is planned?

A: Product Management had mentioned this is something planned, no dates for release as of yet, but it is in the works.

Q: Question on subscription to the Rally Broadcom Service Status Page - Subscribe button is putting me in a loop - may be easier to explain live.

A: The status page itself is not administered by Rally. It's administered by a general Broadcom IT group as Broadcom has other status pages for other products as well. It turns out this page was down at that time you had indicated. In case this happens again you will want to open a support case to find out the status.

Q: I have submitted feedback format. I would the ability to cascade Work Item Template from the parent project to child projects. Creating templates for each parent/child project is painful.

A: Thank you for posting an enhancement request. This will be examined and prioritized by Product Management.

Q: We recently changed a team's Release time box from a Monthly to a Quarterly timebox.  The team really liked being able to see each month side by side in the Release Planning page . From the Release Planning page is there a way to display the months within a Quarter Release or is there a report that can display the features within each month for a 3 month date range in a columnar format?

A: You shall use the Timeline page and use the date +/- feature to widen up or narrow the timeframe you're looking at.

Q: Can Work Rule work on Defects or Test Cases

A: Currently, Work Rules can be used for Defects, but not for Test Cases. You will want to post an enhancement request for that.  The supported objects for Work Rules today are portfolio items, user stories, defects, defect suites and test sets.
