Db2 Use Cases for Database Analyzer

Database Analyzer™ for Db2 for z/OS is a powerful tool that you can use to automate and perform regular database maintenance. The product is packed full of features and we build content to help both experienced and novice DBAs navigate all of them.

To help you get started and take advantage of Database Analyzer, we provide detailed procedures for the most common use cases for performing maintenance on complex databases that incorporate our recommended best practices. In the RTOS Extract Procedure Use Case, you need to perform regular maintenance on a Db2 database and run REORG, RUNSTATS, and Image Copy based on DSNACCOX stored procedure recommendations.

These tasks are broken down into the following procedures that follow one after another, but each can be used independently.

Each use case incorporates our recommended best practices, but are fully customizable to meet your specific needs. We provide illustrations of our panels to help you find your way and provide real-world examples where relevant.

We recommend that you submit the extract procedure before your maintenance window and submit the generated action JCL at the beginning of your maintenance window. You can schedule jobs to apply maintenance on a regular schedule as part of a proactive maintenance strategy.

Another critical use case for database management is disaster recovery. Recovery Analyzer™ for Db2 for z/OS is another powerful tool in the Utility Suite for Db2 for z/OS. Check out Perform Disaster Recovery for detailed procedures on backing up and restoring your Db2 subsystem and its user data. By leveraging both maintenance and disaster recovery, you can ensure that your Db2 environment remains stable, optimized, and resilient in the face of challenges.
