Hello All,

I have recently updated from Workstation 17.5.2 to 17.6.

The Host I am running on is Windows 10, the VM guest is Windows 11.

The details of Host and Guest are uploaded also as attachments.

After powering on the VM, logging in, and leaving it on for about 15-30mins I notice that it freezes and cannot do anything except "Shutdown Guest" menu option.

I have disable the power option which causes Windows 11 guest to go to sleep.

I have also disable "3D Graphics Acceleration" in the settings for this VM.

The VMWare logfile is also attached. I took a copy of it before shutting down guest VM.

Does anyone know why this occurs?
Any help will be appreciated.

I found an answer that worked for me here https://community.broadcom.com/vmware-cloud-foundation/question/workstation-76-wont-grab-input-after-host-lock#35125ece-8032-42bf-a9b1-0192200e6c3c

the key seemed to be adding mks.enableDX12Presentation=FALSE to the vmx config file

I was able to update to Workstation 17.6.1.

I disabled "3D Acceleration" in VM settings.

I ran the VM and let it run for more than an hour, with no issues.

Nonetheless, wanted to say thanks to Adrian Lewis for responding to my question. Appreciate it.

Regards

I have exactly the same problem. Multiple of my Windows 11 VMs are not working and freeze after some minutes. I disabled 3D and also set the config option as described, no chance - it is still freezing. I Hope that the next patch of VMWAre will solve it.

I have now installed VMWare Workstation 17.6.2 and the freeze is gone. Problem solved!

Same here for me even with 17.6.2 , which fixed Linux UI-less guests not starting  but actually for me added Windows 11 freezes.

One thing I noticed however - it does not freeze when just running at background, it freezes the moment you try to switch to it. Gets unfrozen after a couple of minutes although.

Restart of that Guest Win11 fixes the problem for couple of days, but once it runs again for some time it start to freeze and it happens mor frequrently , the longer it running. I guess they have some resource leak or something like that, that accumulates over time.
