Hi everyone,
I am not able to find some documentation online which states that VMware tools can be installed on the supported OS version regardless of the VM hardware version. If I go to the vmware interoperability matrix: Product Interoperability Matrix (vmware.com) this shows me Vmware tools version 12.4.5 are compatible with ESXi 7.0-8.0U3. By checking only here someone might think that we need to have VM hardware version 17 and newer to be able to install Vmware tools 12.4.5 on the VMs.
I know this is not correct and even Vmware support confirmed me and my TAM etc. but for some people it is the best to have it in the official documentation. Does something like this exist and I just cannot find it?
Some colleagues think we should upgrade VM hardware version to 17 and newer for all Vms to be able to install latest VMware tools. I understand the confusion.
I have the same problem, even turning on show legacy doesn't change this. As they have removed earlier versions of ESXi from the matrix I believe it is now useless for versions earlier than 7
VMware Tools can be installed on supported guest operating systems regardless of the VM hardware version. This means that you do not necessarily need to upgrade to VM hardware version 17 to install VMware Tools 12.4.5.
I guess there is no documenation which clearly states that. Too bad. It would make our lives much easier.
