Download the Fusion 13.5.2 installer from the Broadcom download site (download the “for personal use version” —it’s the same installer and code as the “commercial use version”. Mount the disk image and use that to install the new version on top of your existing version.

In almost all cases this will work when the in-product updater fails.

"Users with Fusion Player personal use licenses can simply update to Fusion 13.5.2 and delete your license key".

https://blogs.vmware.com/teamfusion/2024/05/fusion-pro-now-available-free-for-personal-use.html

...It seems to be not very simple because "to delete your license key and unlock the full “Pro for Personal Use” licensing" you must manually delete old VMware Fusion support files the page below lists.

Or is there a simpler way to do that? Not a big deal as long as you remember to reveal ~/Library folder with Option key and remember to go through also the system /Library folder.

There are some minor differences after you do that, for example the Virtual Machine Library then readily displays used cores and memory settings.

Use the advice in Michael Roy's personal blog https://www.mikeroysoft.com/post/convert-player-to-pro/ . You only need to delete the license file to upgrade the personal use version of Fusion/Workstation to the free Pro version. You do not need to remove any other Fusion support files found in /Library or ~/Library.
