I have old and new vm hosts. The old is running 6.7 and the new 8.0.2. I have been using the standalone converter tool to migrate VMs from the old to new hosts. Some of these take a fair amount of time. I have 1 vm left but it is 4TB in size. Is there a better way to migrate this? Having the VM powered off for 3 or more days is not optional.  Both hosts are using the same storage.

I read about enhanced link mode of vcsas but am unfamiliar with how to get this rolling or if it would even work for my setup. Is there a better more efficient way to be doing the migration?

I have opened a ticket with broadcom on the matter but the support just regurgitates the questions i am asking and hasnt really provided anything helpful. So my last resort is to ask the forum

With both hosts using the same storage, it should be a matter of

  1. shut down the VM on the old host
  2. unregister the VM from the old host's inventory (Caution: Do not mix this up with deleting the VM!)
  3. register the VM on the new host
  4. power on the VM on the new host
