VCF/VVF - Licensing to old products

Hello folks,

I was reading about the new licensing model and I have it pretty clear of what is included, where we need add-ons, etc. However I was reading the release notes of the new products and I can see for example that new licenses will be recognized, for example on: vSphere 8.0 U2b or NSX 4.1.2.1

So immediately I thought, what if my platform has vSphere 7 and I cannot upgrade it because of hardware compatibility but I need to renew the licenses. Can I apply those licenses or I have to minimum be on the version mentioned above?

Thanks in advance!

So if your existing platform is vSphere 7 and want to upgrade to vSphere 8 , u will have to get the license upgraded to vsphere 8.0.

Thanks for your reply.

I was referring to apply VVF or VCF Licenses to vSphere 7 and also Add-Ons, is that posible?

Hi Lalegre

it is possible to downgrade the 8.0 VCF License keys except the NFR keys that you got. You can find more information in those KB articles:

VMware Cloud Foundation and vSphere Foundation Solution License Key (broadcom.com)

Upgrade and Downgrade VMware License Keys (broadcom.com)

kind regards
