HI all

I have 22 VM's on a host and if i vmotion, some vm's drop no pings, some drop 1 ping (normal beahviour in my opinion) however some VM's drop up to 60 pings.

If i set a continuous ping from within each GuestOS to an admin server elsewhere on the network and repeat the vmotion, 1 ping maximum is dropped for all vm's.

It looks like the VMs are sending the switch ports a fake frame to let the switch know they have moved so no issue there, but why some respond straight away, and others take a long time, unless pinging from within the GuestOS to the network, in which case no issue for any of the vm's?

Anyone encountered this issue before ?

thanks

Strange.

Have you verified that none of the physical switch ports has spanning tree enabled, and that there are no ARP cache related issues on the physical switches?

Can you - for troubleshooting purposes - run a continuous ping to the VMs that you vMotion from a VM that's already running on the target host.
