Hi guys,

does someone know how to monitor inaccessible objects on a vSAN datastore in Aria Operations?

We had a major issue (thirdparty tool) which generated lots of inaccessible objects on our vSAN datastore.
As we have lots of different vSAN cluster in our environment, we would like to setup an alert with a metric in AriaOps to get notified.

Is there a metric (I did not find one) or another way to see inaccessible objects from a vSAN datastore in AriaOps?

Thanks very much for any help!

  • Login to Aria Operations:
    • Go to your Aria Operations instance and log in with an account that has administrative privileges.
  • Locate vSAN Cluster Metrics:
    • Navigate to Environment > vSAN Cluster > Metrics.
    • Search for relevant metrics or properties that correlate to vSAN object health issues, such as:
      • vSAN Object Health
      • Capacity Health
      • Component State
    • If no direct metric exists, use health scores or logs as a proxy indicator

If you did not find the metrics, you can add a custom alert definition

  • Go to Alert Definitions:

    • Navigate to Alerts > Configuration > Alert Definitions.
    • Click Add to create a new alert definition.
  • Set Alert Properties:

    • Name: "vSAN Inaccessible Object Alert".
    • Base Object Type: vSAN Cluster or Datastore.
    • Alert Impact: Select Health or Risk, depending on your priority.
  • Add Symptoms to Alert:

    • In the Symptoms tab, select the symptom(s) you created in the previous step.
  • Set Recommendations:

    • Add recommendations for resolving the issue, such as:
      • "Check vSAN Health Service in vCenter."
      • "Validate datastore accessibility in vCenter."
      • "Review recent logs for storage errors."
  • Save the Alert Definition:

    • Click Save to finalize the alert.
