Upgrading VMware Tools on a macOS system shouldn't be necessary as they haven't been updated lately - macOS is a somewhat deprecated platform for VMware and the Tools don't get much attention other than security issues (about a year ago there was a security-related update but that didn't change anything functionally with the tools).
Unless you have a paid subscription for VMware Desktop Hypervisor (or an unexpired VMware Fusion support contract which was a paid add-on from a Fusion purchase) you won't be able to open a support ticket with VMware/Broadcom. The best you can do is to post relevant information here -- that's including the vmware.log files from the offending VM and a brief support information collection -- and some of us here can take a look at it.
