Is there a way to erase all the data on a Dell EMC SAN from the GUI of the device?

I have never worked on VMWare or virtualization. I am Microsoft 365/Exchange Administrator who is also shouldering the responsibility of an Infrastructure administrator. So, I only have basic theoretical knowledge of virtualization technology and VMWare products.

I was asked the above question in the following context. - to wipe data from hard drives in servers which will be decommissioned.

The other options, for example, wiping the hard drives with a third-party tool is already well documented.

Hi,

you should be able to delete the raw-volume/LUNs/devices on the SAN GUI.

PS: this query is for Dell Storage as this has nothing to do with VMware.

The physical drives within the array bay typically are used to create LUN/raw-volume within raid config; here if you just delete the device/volume then, there will be no way to access the underlying data as the filesystem structure will be completely broken.

PS: here someone will need physical access or direct access to the SAN to be able to rebuild anything or recover deleted data which won't be possible.

hope that helps.
