Hello,

I am using Vmware Fusion Professional Version 13.6.1  on macOS Sequoia(host) and also the guest VM is macOS Sequoia.

The "Install Vmware Tools" is greyed out. What can I do to install it? Do I need it?

Currently;

  • I cannot copy and paste text between the host and guest VM.
  • I cannot change resolution, it is at 1024x768.

May installing the VMware tools help to resolve these 2 issues above?

Thx

Fusion no longer includes "Legacy" VMware Tools installers -- that unfortunately includes the Tools installer for macOS.

You can download them from Broadcom's download site - even if you don't have a support contract or subscription. If you were able to download Fusion for personal use, you can download them. Look for version 12.1.5 (there for some reason are two of them, you'll have to look inside both of them to find the VMware Tools for macOS download.

Thanks a lot Technogeezer. I was looking at the latest version of the VMware Tools but the macOS was not there. Indeed 12.1.5 included it, installed and my 2 issues have been resolved.

Where can I find that VMware Fusion 12.1.5 and the related VMware Tools download? I can only see other v12 versions (see attached screenshot below) and I am "Not Entitled" to download any of them. I tried to "Build my Profile" and when asked also reset my password but it did not enable those v12 downloads.

In the past I have bought the or later freely for personal use downloaded VMware Fusion 4-6-7-8-11-12-13 from VMware and later from Broadcom and I can still download 13.5.2, 13.6.1 Pro etc for Personal Use.

...but this is a minor issue because I could use this workaround instead:

Download VMware-Fusion-13.5.2-23775688_universal.dmg and > VMware Fusion.app > Contents > Library > isoimages > has darwin.iso (darwinPre15.iso is for older macOS). Copy darwin.iso to the Desktop. For some reason v13.6 does not contain that .iso.

Open VMware Fusion Pro 13.6 and click (do not launch the VM) > macOS 15 > Virtual Machine > Settings... > CD/DVD (SATA) > Connect CD/DVD Drive ON and choose that darwinPre15.iso on the Desktop.

Boot to macOS 15 VM. VMware Tools should be on its Desktop and the Install VMware Tools inside should now work.

Unlike in earlier VMware Fusion versions, it does not release that darwin.iso until CD/DVD (SATA) is removed from the VM settings (it can be added back, if needed).
