after reading this article https://blogs.vmware.com/cloud-foundation/2024/05/14/vmware-desktop-hypervisor-pro-apps-now-available-for-personal-use/

I tried to dig around on the support site to find out how/where to go, but I've had no luck, and I've seen no published EXACT instructions on the process. Can someone assist?

Thanks :)

Just in case anyone else wants to know the answer, I did eventually dig around to the right places to get the software.

  1. Navigate to support.broadcom.com
  2. Login with your broadcom account.
  3. hit the dropdown with the cloud on it, next to your name and choose Vmware Cloud Foundation.
  4. From the Vmware dashboard, choose "My Downloads" on the left.
  5. From the My Downloads page, choose VMware Workstation Pro.
  6. From the Workstation Pro download page, choose either of the Personal Use options.
  7. From there it opens a drop down to choose which specific build of 17 you want. Click on it (17.5.2 being newest)
  8. (I've already done it and didn't document, so I don't have screenshots for some of the last few steps), from the download page there is a check box for "I agree.......blah blah". It then takes you to verify your account info (name, address etc).
  9. Finally you arrive at the download screen with the option to download your file lit up and usable.
  10. During install of the software, you don't input a key for 'personal use' usage, it just runs as is, just not for professional use.

Following the links provided in your link and you'll get there. Now the real question is where to get the free license

I downloaded the bundle file labeled as personal use for Linux and installed it, but it never gives me the option to register for personal use. When I run the software it says I can choose a 30 day trial or buy a license key. Does anyone know how to do this free for personal use install correctly in Linux?

This does not work for me - I have to complete my profile and the last name has been migrated from vmware.com with mangled accented characters in a read-only field, which are rejected when trying to safe the form.

It is obvious, that the conversion took an UTF-8 encoded accented character and stored the two bytes used to represent it as if they were bare Unicode values.

I guess this affects many other users that had registered their given or last name containing non-ASCII characters on the VMware site.
