 ESXi backups and root login

This may be the dumbest question for this group, but...

I inherited an ESXi 8.0 environment for which the root logins were not kept properly (i.e., lost). I know that a reinstallation is needed to reset this access. However, I'd like to avoid having to reconfigure the network and datastore settings manually.  The network environment uses Distributed Switches and is managed by vCenter (VCSA 8.0).  My questions are:

  1. As I understand it, Distributed Switch configurations are maintained within VCSA. Correct?
  2. If not, is there a switch setting on the command like I can use to just backup the network settings without backing up the authentication (root) settings?
  3. Is there a similar switch to backup the Datastore settings?

Any help is greatly appreciated!! Thanks!
