Since yesterday, suddenly I can't connect to update server during checking update from both VMWare Workstation Pro and VMWare Fusion Pro due to the certificate error
Workstation Pro: 17.6.3 (The latest version)

Fusion Pro: 13.6.3 (The latest version)

VMWare itself are working properly and only the issue is unable to check the update.

I also have the issue on the latest build 17.6.3 build-24583834

Seeing the exact same issue here on Window10 and Workstation Pro: 17.6.3 (The latest version). The strange thing was that I just updated to 17.6.3 within the last week or two without any such error.

A post from a Broadcom employee over in the Fusion community indicates that they have changed the software update infrastructure for their products. Along with this change they have discontinued the ability to use the in-product updaters for Fusion and Workstation.

You will need to download product installers from the Broadcom support portal in order to update your Workstation installation. This limits you to updating to Workstation 17.5.2 or later.

Note that the “hacks” that allowed access to older versions of Workstation by direct URLs to the software update infrastructure no longer work.

My take on this is that they have not decided when, if, or how they will return in-product updates to Workstation. If they do, I would expect that it will need a product update to re-enable it.

It’s not great that they released this change to their users with no notice.

As per Techoggeezer post on March 27/25 and MS Co-Pilot

This issue seems to be related to changes in VMware's update infrastructure. Broadcom, which now manages VMware products, has reportedly discontinued the in-product update feature for VMware Workstation Pro. As a result, users are unable to check for updates directly within the application, leading to the certificate error you're encountering.

To update your VMware Workstation Pro, you'll need to manually download the latest installer from the Broadcom support portal. It's worth noting that this change has caused frustration among users, as it was implemented without prior notice.

I attempted to verify my copy of VMWare Fusion Pro 13 was up to date on my old Mac Pro Intel server and ran into this problem. It took over 30 minutes with a level one Broadcom support tech (presumably in India given their name) to "register" with the Broadcom support portal so that I could download what is now a "free" version of VMWare Fusion. The support tech was somewhat clueless but did eventually get me pointed in the right direction. I'm going to find an alternative virtual machine solution because clearly Broadcom doesn't give a shit about non-commercial end users; i.e., people using it for personal use. If I have to jump through that many hoops to download the latest version of what is ostensibly "free" software I might as well just deal with something like QEmu.

Could they add a proper redirect and make this work again?

Several month and still not fixed - lazy & incompetent american company.

The certificate and "the update server could not be resolved" errors are a result of business decisions made by Broadcom. I understand the frustrations - I'm impacted by it too. It's OK to disagree with their decisions. But let's keep the discussions on a professional level, OK?

Great posts by Technogeezer - for the 10th time about the same subject.

It seems that nobody reads the posts where the matter has been discussed over 10 times within a few months.

Can somebody make these as Sticky Posts - maybe then the answers would be read - at least more often than now. There are a couple of other similar subjects.

Can an "External Moderator" do things like these ... I mean create Sticky Posts?

@RaSystemlord - the “sticky post” feature on this platform seems to be lacking compared to other blog platforms. External moderators don’t have the ability to use what’s available either. Let me see if we can do something here like what I was able to do over in the Fusion community about getting this issue more visibility to the forum.

There is no updated news on this.  I'd recommend to all users of Fusion and Workstation to stop running the in-product check for updates. It no longer works and it's not a bug, it's an intentional decision to remove the feature based on Broadcom's corporate policy to only allow in-product updates to those users that have paid subscriptions (for which there are none for Fusion or Workstation).

I would not expect in-product updates to return to Workstation or Fusion from what I'm hearing. I would hope, though, that they provide some kind of notification of product updates.

The best I can offer is to wait and see. If they change things, I would expect we'll hear about it here in the forums.

Broadcom has moved the free downloads into a new page on the software downloads site. Try this link to find all the freely available software (which includes Workstation and VMware Tools):
