Where are the Downloads??

  • 1.  Where are the Downloads??

    Posted Jun 13, 2024 02:34 PM

It has become impossible to download Workstation Player since Broadcom came into the picture.  The website keeps asking me to complete my profile to "Gain access" to more product downloads.  All I want to do is download the FREE to use non-commercially version of Workstation.  The links on WMware take you to Broadcom to no avail.  Can someone please comment on where to download Workstation Player?

I was able to figure it out by following the steps in this blog post: Downloading VMware Fusion and Workstation Free for Personal Use | mikeroySoft.com

    Hope it helps!

Thank you for the walkthrough.  I got to the Workstation Player download page, and when I tried to click on the download icon, the page tells me I am "Not Entitled".  This is a free product for those to use for non commercial purposes but it is unattainable because of some newly formed blocks instituted by Broadcom.

Have you tried downloading Workstation Pro 17.5.2? It's now free for non-commercial purposes.

Broadcom made the decision to "simplify" their desktop virtualization portfolio. Part of that was to discontinue Fusion and Workstation Player products.

I chose to download the Pro version of WS, and then had to go and enter my address and email address, now the download link says "Account verification is Pending. Please try after some time."

Will give it some time, but a simple process has been made unnecessarily difficult, that is, assuming account verification executes in due time. WTG Broadcom.

    Thanks for everyone's input.

    It helped me!

    Thanks! =)

I purchased the commercial version and I still can't download it.  They emailed me a site ID and yet their web-site claims it's not valid.  I wasn't born yesterday, this is one of the worst web experiences I've had since the 1990s.  They took my money but I am not able to access what I paid for.

Even without a site ID, you should be able to access the download section. From there, you can download the Personal Use version of Workstation Pro (it has the same SHA2 hash as the commercial version, so both files are likely identical).

    Here's what worked for me:

Log into the Broadcom portal, select VMware Cloud Foundation from the cloud menu (top-right), then select My Downloads (left side), search for "Workstation" (or Fusion, etc), click on VMware Workstation Pro, click on the desired product and version (Personal Use), agree to the Terms and Conditions (if necessary), finally click on the HTTPS Download button.

PS: These steps are very similar to the link Chuck Renner posted above...

Yep, thank you for your reply, but this company makes it impossible to download anything, at least for an individual.  I'm done...

Do folks know whether or not the VmWare Workstation Pro for [ windows ] Personal Use and VmWare Fusion Pro for [ macos ] Personal Use installers will upgrade an existing VmWare Workstaion Player [ windows ] and VmWare Fusion [ macos ] install picking up the existing virtual machine configurations they had in place?

No, but it is easy enough to add them.

I started with VMware Workstation Player 16.2.4 and then installed VmWare Workstation Pro 17.6. After Workstation Pro was installed no virtual machines were listed under My Computer. However, I could add the existing ones by:

    1. Run VMware Workstation Pro
    2. Select Open a Virtual Machine
    3. Browse to the location of an existing virtual machine and select its .vmx file.
    4. Select Open
    5. The machine will be added to "My Computer"
    6. Repeat steps 2 to 5 for each existing virtual machine

I cannot even get past the original screening process. It gets stuck in a loop, and then spits me back to the download page.

    Download page
This page gets stuck loading for roughly 30s-1min, and then spits me back to the previous screen

There are some working legacy links:

Thank you very much.  The link gives access to not only the latest, but many of the prior versions of WS.

Why a billion dollar company couldn't figure out how to give access to these downloads is anyone's guess.

Cheers for the links. Unfortunately there’s no download for the MacOS build, which is what I was looking for. I guess I’m gonna have to make do with Virtualbox for the time being.

I spent so much time trying to find a link; it's amazing that such a big company can't afford to have a website that's not complete garbage

This is true. It is so annoying that they do not want us to use their products. Can an Engineer in their team realize that they are turning away professionals from their site from downloading? Is this a marketing gimmick to use oracle VM?
