vSAN vs. other solutions such as HP StorVirtual and Starwind.,..

Hey all, I have another topic out there for the same project but am also now considering VMWare vSAN and wanted to see if anyone here has implemented it yet, or another similar solution such as Starwind or  HP StoreVirtual

Does anyone know the differences between them and what kind of networking is needed? I am mostly interested in vSAN but it seems that you need 3 hosts AND separate network switches and a 'SAN network' similiar to how a Dell or EMC SAN would... whereas Starwind and HP StoreVirtual just need 2 hosts and don't need to be on a separate network with separate switches than the rest of your environment?

How has the performance been? Is there separate vSAN licensing?

Does all the specs inside the hosts need to be the same?

Is it easy to vMotion?

VMware VSAN needs three physical hosts to operate minimum (4 to survive double failure, reason why EVO:RAIL got 4 blades and not 3, Microsoft Storage Spaces Shared Nothing is no different - 4 boxes to start from).

Let's start with a fact HP VSA really needs three physical hosts as well. Yes, data can be replicated and stored between two of them but you need third one (and it cannot be a VM hosted on #1 or #2) running "Failover Manager" to keep virtual storage cluster in quorum mode to avoid brain split issue.

You want SvSAN. VMware actually recently announced that it would recommend StorMagic's SvSAN for all configurations requiring 2 servers and VMwares VSAN for anything 3+ Here is the solution brief they released: http://www.stormagic.com/vmware_vsphere_remote_office_branch_office_editions_with_stormagic_svsan.php
