    Hi everybody!

    I talked with Symantec Support because I'm received the follow error im my job backup (Backup Exec 2012):

    An attempt to take a snapshot of a virtual machine failed because it was unable to quiesce an application.

    The Symantec Support had a test with VMWare, he took a snapshot with Quiesce guest file system (Needs VMware Tools installed) marked. Follow the error after some minutes:

    The guest OS has reported an error during quiescing. The error code was: 4 The error message was: Quiesce aborted.

    Symantec said that the error is VMWare.

    Somebody know this errors?

    Thanks,

    Bruno

    Hello and welcome to the communities.

    Note: Discussion successfully moved from VMware vCenter™ to Backup & Recovery

    What application and what OS are you encountering this error with?

    Are the VMware Tools installed in the guest OS?

    Thanks for answer.

    OS = Windows Server 2008 R2

    VMWare = VSphere 5.0 / VCenter 5.0 / ESXi 5.0

    Application = Backup Exec 2012

    The server with problem is installed vmware tools.

    My job backup have 60 servers (VMWare), but only 5 servers have problem.

    Thanks,

    Bruno

    And what apps are on these 5 servers? Its likely that they are not able to utilize the quiesce feature. Have you tried the backups with the quiesce options disabled? You can also try removing the VSS driver from the VMware Tools, if the apps don't support VSS.

    Follow the erro in Backup Exec application:

    An attempt to take a snapshot of a virtual machine failed because it was unable to quiesce an application.

    So, VMWare can't take a snapshot for virtual machine.

    I removed the VSS diver in VMWare Tools, but nothing happened.
