  • 1.  VMware Workstation Pro Realtek ALC1220 Stuttering In Guest?

    Posted 6 days ago

Hi all, I am running Fedora (Aurora Linux, based on Fedora) as a guest in a Windows 11 machine. The sound stutters very badly. I am running build 17.6.3 of Worksation Pro. I am also on the latest Windows 11 24H2 build.

I have a Realtek ALC1220 sound chip on my MOBO.

Is this a known problem? Is there something I can do to fix it?

    Many thanks :)

Others have found that adjusting some pipewire/wireplumber configurations in the  VM can help stuttering audio in Linux virtual machines. Take a look at https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/pipewire/pipewire/-/wikis/Troubleshooting#stuttering-audio-in-virtual-machine and see if that advice helps you.

For what it's worth, running a Fedora 41 Guest under a Windows 11 Host and Workstation 17.6.3 had no usable sound in the guest until I followed the instructions at the website referenced by Technogeezer. (Adding 50-alsa-config.conf).

This markedly improved things (from no usable sound), although it is still imperfect as short intermittent sounds still sometimes get lost or truncated. At least with my setup.
