    I HAVE VMWARE WORKSTATION 17 PLAYER (17.5.1 build-23298084) INSTALLED ON UBUNTU 24.04 KERNEL 6.8.0-31-generic

Each time I power up a VM, VMware closes. Can any one help?

Can't really help much without any log file. If there are any created, attach the latest vmware.log (from the VM directory). If there is no vmware.log in the VM directory, there should be vmware-vmware-ui-nnnn.log or vmware-apploader-nnnn.log from the /tmp/vmware-$USER directory. The nnnn is some random  4 digit number of the VMware UI process ID so the latest by date needs to be looked at.

Other than that, you could try unchecking the "Software Updates" options in "Preferences".

Check for product updates on startup
Check for software components as needed

@Chidi NwachukwuPlease confirm if you are able to launch WS app and see the VMs listed in the library, because on Ubuntu 24.04 host the installation of WS 17.5.2 is failing due to compilation error and hence WS app itself is NOT getting launched.

    Same is reported here- https://community.broadcom.com/vmware-cloud-foundation/discussion/upgrade-1752-under-ubuntu-2404
