    VMWare Workstation Player 17

    Host: Windows 11 Pro

    Guest: Windows 7 Pro

Trying to install VMWare Tools I get several messages that 'Windows cannot verify the publisher of this driver software' and two options: 'Don't Install' and 'Install anyway'. Since VMWare Tools emanates from a trusted source I chose 'Install anyway'.

This message applies to VMCI, VMXNet3, PVSCSI, USB and PS2 Mouse drivers. The program then finishes with "Setup failed' and rolls back any changes leaving VMWare Tools uninstalled.

I'd appreciate some assistance with solving this issue. TIA

Next time you see a post in the wrong area, go to the menu to the right and choose Report Inappropriate Content, leave a note, and the moderators will be informed - they can move posts, and thankfully delete duplicate posts too

I posted my message in the section that Technogeezer suggested. I am confused that this is VMWare Fusion Discussions. This seems to be for Mac users - I'm a Windows users

This post is in the area for Workstation Player, which as your host OS is Windows sounds correct.

Duplicate posts aren’t necessary, since moderators can move posts (either because they happen to spot that they are in the wrong location or a report is made using the process I mentioned)

From info I've found it seems various Microsoft updates need to be applied to allow 'unsigned' modifications to be applied to Windows 7 which affect VMWare Tools. I'm not prepared to make these MS updates so please close this thread.

As the creator of the thread, you “close” it by marking one of the comments as the solution, you do that from the menu to the right of the comment.

For the record, the Windows update you need to install is KB4474419 which enables support for SHA-2 signatures.  The VMware Tools drivers for Windows 7 are still signed, but they now use SHA-2 hashes instead of the much older and vulnerable SHA-1 hashes.

I had the problem you described when attempting to update the VMware Tools on my Windows 7 32bit VM (had been using it under VMware Workstation 15) when using VMware Workstation Pro 17.6.3 build-24583834.  I was able to resolve this by applying Service Pack 1 (KB976932), then Windows 7 Critical Updates (KB3020369) and finally Service Pack 2 (KB3125574).  Note that the issue wasn't resolved after installing just Windows 7 Service Pack 1 and Critical Updates, only after installing Service Pack 2.  I hope this maybe helpful to resolve the issue  for your situation with VMware Fusion.
