VMware 17.6.3 Software Update cannot connect?

it gives me an error that credentials error each time i click help-software updates.

Short version: in-product updates have been shut down. For now, go to the Broadcom support portal and download new (17.5.2 and later) versions of the Workstation installer in order to update your installed version.
