    today when i click help - software update, it gives me a certificate error. but last week this performed very nice.

    Monday, March 24, 2024, I'm also seeing this error running VMware Workstation Pro v17.6.3 post the recent March 14th in application update.

    For now request you to download the installer file of the latest Workstation 17.6.3 from the support portal and then try installing Workstation from it.

    Does not work. My original installation was pre-v17, usually updating (many years) with full package downloads from VMWare.
    When Broadcom took over, I struggled to get a support login and got into the routine of using the help menu update mechanism.
    With this certificate error, I at last got my access to support fixed and have gone as far as completely removing the software (including license information but keeping config), then doing a full package install (of 17.6.3 downloaded earlier today).
    System restarts to no avail; the certificate error on help dialog check for updates remains.
    NB: I suspected my ageing VMWare license but (1) without capturing license info the problem remains and (2) I now find that a license key cannot be captured and the product is now free.

    Further to my previous replies, same error on from-scratch 17.6.0. I reckon cert at Broadcom update is problematic.

    This happened to me about the same time I upgraded to 17.6.3 as well.  The microsoft update created or replaced the network adapter with a virtual network of its own.  I had to delete it in the virtual network editor before I could get the correct ethernet adapter back in the VM.

    The certificate error is symptomatic of a broader problem with the in-product updaters.

    The in-product updaters reference softwareupate.vmware.com. Broadcom has now changed this so that it redirects to the Broadcom support site (support.broadcom.com). It's unclear if the certificate error is causing the re-direct, or the re-direct is pulling up the wrong certificate -- but until they fix whatever is causing this, the in-product updaters or any direct URL hacks that pointed you to the content that the in-product updaters used won't work.

    I have a feeling that this: https://knowledge.broadcom.com/external/article/390098 may be at the root of our problems. It looks like they've made changes for other VMware products but made no attempt to think through what happens for the desktop hypervisor products.
