Hello, I need to modify the RAM, processor, and other settings of a virtual machine in VMware Worstation 17.6.4 because it's a test that requires modifying the technical specifications. However, I get the following message: Virtual Machine Settings (Read-only as vmrest is operating the VM)

I've read about this in Linux, but in my case, it's in Windows 11 Pro 64-bit.

As a first step, please check whether the VM's folder contains any .lck files, and - if so - delete them.

As such, there is no real reason why they couldn't be modified, but there are some things to check for Windows:

    1.
Did you really shut it down? Some forms of Windows make it a guessing game between shutdown and sleep/suspend/whatever? You cannot change (some of) the settings if it is still reserved for use.

    2.
Do you have one VM per one folder? If you are sharing the files in one folder between many VM computers then the situation is unpredictable and wrong.

    3.
Are you sure you have write permissions to the folder?

If I may guess, it is the number 1.
