Wondering if anyone has heard talks about Veeam supporting vSAN in the near future?  We are currently exploring the idea of using vSAN, but we need to be able to leverage our investment in Veeam for backups before considering vSAN any further.

    Thanks.

Support for vSAN is coming in Patch 4 for v7. Patch release should be next week.

    Hi Friend,

vSAN itself can give VM resiliency as well.

Built-in failure tolerance – Virtual SAN leverages distributed

RAID and cache mirroring to ensure that data is never lost if a

    disk, host, or network fails.

    Refer:http://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/products/vsan/VMware_Virtual_SAN_Datasheet.pdf

I don't see how these capabilities are relevant to backup, which is what OP is asking in the first post.
For example, how exactly this will help to restore a file deleted from a VM running off vSAN?

100% agreed. VSAN is no backup solution. You definitely have to backup your VMs.

There is an existing discussion on Veeam Community Forum regarding upcoming vSAN support; might be worth subscribing in order to stay updated.

    Cheers.
