  • 1.  VCF trial quantity meaning?

    Hello, when going to the trials page to request access it asks for quantity (1 - 5000). But a quantity of what exactly? Hosts? CPU cores? The help message only says "NOTE: When choosing the quantity for your trial, please be sure to select correctly, once chosen, that quantity cannot be changed."

    @rwattuab,

    It is core-Based Licensing i.e. VCF, along with vSphere Foundation (VVF), is primarily licensed based on the total number of cores per physical CPU on your ESXi hosts.

    If you plan to deploy VCF on, say, 2 physical servers, and each server has 2 CPUs with 12 cores each (total 24 cores per server), you'd be looking at 48 physical CPU cores. You'd need to request a quantity that covers these cores for your trial.

    For more calculations, you may refer below.

    VCF (like most of the products with a few exceptions) is licensed per core. If you are running Holodeck and want a trial license above the free period (60/90 days depending on version), make sure to get enough cores for the nested hosts running on your physical host.
