    Hi,

I am not sure if this topic goes in here but here goes...

I have a third party external usb tv tuner card made by a small company in India called Tech-com that works only on windows xp sp2 platform. I have been unsuccessful to get this to work on VISTA after numerous attempts with similar drivers.

So the next thing that I thought is to upgrade to vista on my laptop, use the free vmware util and run a winxpsp2 image and try and get the device to be picked up in the image.

Is this a plausible action and will it render any results?

Awaiting the opinion of the forum members

    thanks...

Take a look at this thread for some discussion:

    http://www.vmware.com/community/thread.jspa?threadID=88909&tstart=0

Although it's about a Linux USB tuner, I think it applies here as well. Summary: Can be used for recording, but not simultaenously using host while guest recording. Playback of recording within guest is iffy. Server does not have USB2 so you may need Workstation or Player to have tuner record at acceptable levels.

    Well,

I used vmware workstation, ran an xpsp2 image, installed the software and then used the removal disks option to connect the usb tv tuner card.

Immediately a prompt comes up saying that the usb hub doesn't support USB2 and then it goes off. When i try to run the device, it says capture device not initialized or not been switched on.

How to change from usb1 to usb2 in workstation 6? Is there any option. The drivers seem to get recognized differently also when i install hardware in the vmware image. what normally used to come up as USB 2821 VIDEO is ok. EMP AUDIO device comes up with some other AUDIO DEVICE name.

Anyways cracking my head at this..anyone having luck with tv tuner and MS VIRTUAL PC? is that a good option?

My bad. I should have said only Workstation 6 and Player 2 have USB2. All previous versions are USB1. Are you on Workstation 5 or 6?

You will need to use the Change Version wizard in Workstation 6 to upgrade the virtual machine to be a Workstation 6/Player 2 compatible version. Then, you can enable the USB 2.0 setting in the VM's hardware configuration.

Hey thanks for that suggestion RDPETruska...will try it this evening

Thanks for the help Asatoran; I am on workstation 6 but it told me that the support is still usb1. I will try and change the version of the image to be compatible with version 6 with usb2 support.

    Lets see if that works.

No luck ! I am using workstation 6, I upgraded/changed image to support usb2. My usb tv tuner doesn't seem to switch on or pick up the remote. Cannot initialize device keeps coming up. TV tuner works absolutely fine on base system.

If there are any other suggestion, I am all ears.

    Thanks once again
